Hedo Turkoglu was a very solid player back then. I wish these ball podcasts start bringing this type of guys more often so their legacy can be celebrated and young people can get to know them. Also lots of stories from an insider perspective. Much better than having the same 20 guys rotating between every podcast doing the same interviews over and over again at this point.

That 09 Orlando team was at least a decade ahead of its time. That played 4 out with Dwight in the middle. Had 2 twoway ballhandling wings that could do it all on and off ball (Hedo, Pietrus). Small ball 4 that can stretch the floor and defend (Rashard). He shot the shit out of the 3 and helped them play spread pick and roll around Dwight. Hedo as well had a short peak but man, he could handle, clutch, pass, playmake, shoot, score. I know he criticizes his own defense but he was underrated. In todays league environment with spacing and lack of defensive rules he could easily be a 23-25/5/5 type of wing. Good depth with JJ, Lee, Rafer... Its a shame Jameer got injured. He was an all star that season. Orlando beating Cleveland was one of the biggest upsets of the decade. Orlando were +550 underdogs without homecourt advantage. All the Kobe VS Lebron promos. No one outside of Orlando thought they were winning that series especially without Jameer.

Hedo would be elite in this era... 6'10 point forward that could shoot, pass and handle the ball. Pretty much Luka today.... The NBA used to be so biased against international/euro players back in the day. They didnt like players who could shoot, pass and score efficiently. But if you could jump, dribble the air out of the ball, never pass then take contested long range twos you were the guy. I love Kobe and AI but watching those guys play sometimes was painful.

Loved Hedo, Peja and Vlade on The Kings back in the late 90’s early 2000’s those teams are pretty much how the NBA is today and it was the first time that I ever seen a team really rely on their European players like that, it was almost as if that team had a Euro league type of identity and then mix Webber and J Will or Bibby in there and the excitement escalated with their style of play….and they played defense too…..great team great times in the NBA back then….definitely more competitive in that era than now,…you had teams with almost 50 wins in a season in the west back then and they were the 7th or 8th seed…..fun times great games legendary battles

Guys, what a beautiful segment. I mean, they're all great, & I learn from each & every one of the episodes I've consumed over these last several months, since becoming acquainted with your knuckleheads podcast. I appreciate getting up close with all the greats you two have hosted. It's particularly valuable to me because I missed most televised NBA coverage from 1990 onwards, since marrying an English girl & settling in Europe. Thank God for the Internet, which has allowed me to reconnect with my favorite sport, at least as a spectator. This interview, though, this conversation with Hedo, was extra special. I know, as an American ex pat living in France, the long voyage & many challenges of coming to foreign country as an adult, not knowing a word of the language you will be obliged to learn. It's so interesting to see how he speaks with you guys now, after 20 plus years in the US, & 15 in the league. He speaks with ease & communicates beautifully--cheers & hats off to my man, Hedo Turkoglu! What's so interesting to me is the kind of English he speaks: It would obviously be different if he settled in the UK, Canada, or wherever. But he came to th USA, & he installed himself in the league. It's so interesting to me how he talks to you in this podcast. He retains a foreign accent, but he talks like a brother. His vocabulary & phrasing is that of a hooper who grew up anywhere stateside, whether Chicago, LA or rural North Carolina, but with a Turkish flavor. That was fascinating, & oh so informative, so thank you, knuckleheads, for doing what you do . All the best...
Him and Mehmet Okur were our heroes when we were in high school. We used to wake up middle of the night and sneak into living room to watch your matches, great memories.
