3:20 - Historical Background
18:50 - Bible Teaching
25:43 - Faith Lesson
Location
1. Located within Hebron, Mamre is set in the Judean Mountains about 20 miles (32 km.) south of Jerusalem.
2. It stands 3,000 feet (914 m.) above sea level, making it the highest city in Israel.
3. While there have been tensions in the past between Israelis and Arabs, the Oaks of Mamre are protected by Israeli forces, and around 250,000 tourists visit Hebron and this area annually.
Historical Background
1. This site of Mamre, known as Ramet Haram Al-Khalil, which means "The Height of the Sanctuary of the Friend," was first excavated from 1926 to 1928.
2. There have been discovered 6 different layers of construction at this site:
1. Time of Abraham (2050 BC) Bronze Age pottery during the time of Abraham was discovered at this site, which confirms that it was inhabited during the time of Abraham.
2. Time of the Kingdom of Israel (1000-586 BC)
3. Time of Herod the Great/Early Roman Period (63 BC to 70 AD)
4. Time of the Early Roman Period (130-324 AD)
5. Time of Constantine & the Byzantine Period (324-614 AD)
6. Time of Islamic Period (638 AD and beyond)
3. The evidence that this is the place where Abraham met with God is extremely strong. With this being the case, this site is holy ground because God was here and met face-to-face with Abraham.
Places of Interest
1. Abraham's Altar (2050 BC)
2. Hole in the Bedrock 1 (Oak Tree Location)
3. Hole in the Bedrock 2 (Oak Tree Location)
In the rocky terrain of the Middle East, trees will grow up through bedrock if they have sufficient water. This is evidenced by the large holes found at this site. A nearby spring at the site would have provided all the water these great trees would have needed to grow and flourish in the rocky soil at this site.
4. Well/Spring (2050 BC)
5. Kingdom of Israel Structures (1000 BC)
Just outside the main walls Herod the Great built are two square structures with a passage between them. These are believed to be part of a gate leading into a walled structure around this site that King David constructed. This evidence gives further weight to the fact that this site was holy and commemorated.
6. Roman Wall Construction Herod the Great Built (15 BC)
5. Pagan Blood Channel Drain (130-324 AD)
This was used during the early Roman Period to drain blood from the pagan sacrifices made on the original altar Abraham had constructed.
7. Byzantine Basilica Church (324-614 AD)
8. Islamic Building Walls (638 AD)
Faith Lesson from the Oaks of Mamre & Abraham
1. The Abrahamic Covenant establishes that every person is saved by grace through faith, regardless of whether they lived in the Old Testament period or the New Testament period and beyond.
2. Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness (Gen. 15:6). In the Old Testament, faith was expressed by believing in God, and then later, when the Law was given at Mt. Sinai, by believing and obeying the sacrificial system. In the New Testament and beyond, faith is expressed in believing in Christ and obeying Him.
3. What about us? Do we believe in Jesus and have we placed our faith in Him for our salvation?
4. Like Abraham, do we believe in the promises of God and the hope of eternal life in heaven with Him?
5. Do we believe it's worth it to love and follow Christ?
6. Do we believe the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us (Rom. 8:18)?
7. Do we believe that our light and momentary affliction is working in us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory (2 Cor. 4:17)?
8. Like Abraham, do we hold on to hope even though things aren't working out the way we think they should and hoped they would?

Hi Pastor. Thanks so much for making the videos. I'm wondering if you agree with answers in Genesis with their beliefs about the earth being only 6000 years old. It does seem to make sense. I'm currently in the book of Genesis, so this video allows me to see where Abraham lived in Canaan. God bless you and your family

In this video, the Pastor does not mention the importance of Baptism. I like the Pastor and his videos. But also it was strange when I was a boy watching Billy Graham crusades I never saw Billy Graham talk about Baptism and I never saw Mr. Graham Baptize anyone.

Well informed! Thanks for your details about only God walking through the bloody animals, not Abraham. It might indicate that God knows people, even as good as Abraham, very well and know their sinful nature to be unable to always keep his words. How great and meticulous God's love is! May Jesus the Lord keep using you to serve Him forever! But still your preaching ignores good works too much. Please refer to James 2:21-23, and make the information more complete and perfect as a whole!

This was another wonderful video. I hope in the future the choice of background music will be more appropriate, and not soft disco like at 10:45 and one other place. As for teaching, the preacher rightly noted at the end that we must "obey". While faith in the blood of Jesus is the most important thing, there is a doing required on our part to show if we really will follow what God says to do, or not. Genesis 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. If those two verses had been covered, then this important point of obeying would have been even clearer. Of course obeying God involves not only faith in Jesus as the Son of God, but following everything God says to do, including his command to "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the 7th is the Sabbath of the Lord your God."

Putting yourself back under the law isn't required for a Christian. In fact, Paul and the author of Hebrews refutes this suggestion.

@@steveellis7174 steve, "Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” Do you really think one can be an unrepentant adulterer, blasphemer, idol worshipper, sabbath breaker, thief etc. and still walk the streets of gold one day?

@@statutesofthelord I believe what the Bible says, not what false teachers who pedal lordship salvation say. Certainly God wants us to obey him. Your rewards in Heaven depend on it. You will be blessed for doing so. Not doing so will cause problems in your life and shame when you meet Jesus. But walking the Christian life is different from salvation. For that, you need only believe that Jesus paid for your sins at the cross, died ans was buried, then rose again 3 days later, conquering death. As far as the Sabbath goes, that was for Jews under the law. Romans shows that Christians are freed from the law. Don't try and put others under it again. That's what Paul and the other apostles had to fight against in the early church.

But it is better to add that faith is fulfilled by good works when you confirmed that the salvation is from faith. James 2:“21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” Too much preachers has emphasized salvation from faith but too little about true faith coworking with works, which leads believers to sin willingly without the concerns of losing salvation. Hope all the preachers and their followers to repent before Jesus!

I truly hate grace preachers, full of knowledge perverting God's forever gospel. Yes Abraham had faith, Genesis 26:5 Because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charged and obeyed my commandments my statues and my laws. God had laws before he showed them to Israel at Mt. Sinai. One of the first lessons Christ taught was coming to the defense of the ten commandments in Matthew 5:19. And by his words spoken there we can know who is and who isn't of the kingdom of heaven. Rev 22:14 Blessed are they who have kept his commandments that they may have the right to the tree of life and enter through the gates into the city.
