    Wow! Nice video. I just realized that "Eglon" is the name of the "tzav" (turtle). I thought it was another Hebrew term for a turtle. Am i right that Eglon is a proper noun? If yes, then thanks "Zedekiah" for helping me figure it out. Thank you Andrew and Beth.

    Beth and Avram, if you put the preposition את after verb קרא, it sounds like to read. I think that if you want to say "we called him" you should to use the preposition ל, right??

  • @AlephwithBeth

    @AlephwithBeth

    Hi Luciano, if we were saying "we called out to him" then yes, you would be right. But for "call his name ____" we see את used in the Bible very often in this phrase. See Gen. 4:25, 5:3, 17:19, 30:11, 1 Sam. 1:20, 1 Chron 7:23, etc.

    Were parrots known to ancient Israelites? I have a long-lasting project of figuring out which birds are clean, from the foul fowl list and taxonomy. The answer for parrots depends on whether they knew about them; the answer for seriemas is a question mark.

    In modern Hebrew parrot is tooki תוכי The word existed in the bible in kings, when Solomon brought exotic animals from India, but it's original meaning was probably peacock. So there's probably no reference to parrots in the bible.

    Es 1 Reyes 5:12 en el español, y 1 Reyes 5:26 en el hebreo. Los números de los versículos a menudo no concuerdan entre el hebreo y las traducciones, y yo siempre pongo el número de la versión hebrea.

    It is because of poetic reasons and because the word becomes longer the first vowel must shorten.

  • @AlephwithBeth

    To make a long story short, words that start with ayin, heh or het and a qamets vowel (and don't have the stress on the first syllable) trigger a vowel change in the article to "he".
