    Thanks for joining Indi and I on this fantastic, rainy camp. This is a longer video than I usually release, as there was so much enjoyable content that I did not want to cut out. I am also experimenting to see people enjoy watching longer content. I would love to hear from you in the comments if you want to stop by and say hello. If you are interested in supporting the channel to grow please feel free to check out Buy Me a Coffee, using this link www.buymeacoffee.com/adventureot or use the Super Thanks button on You Tube. There is a membership option on Buy Me a Coffee that gives you some extra perks. Check that out. I am also on Instagram instagram.com/adventure__ot/ . Have a fantastic day. Cathy

    When I was doing agility with my dogs and camping because I couldn't afford hotels I always zipped two bags together for us. It was very warm with two dogs in the bag and they loved it. We've also been camping with cats and they liked it inside the bag too!

    One th ing that baffles me about so many camping youtubers, is that hey put so much effort into setting up a lovely campsite, only to only stay 1 night! If i put that much effort into something, i would want to stay at least a couple nights!

  • @adventureot

    @adventureot

    5 ай бұрын

    You might find that most of those You Tubers do spend longer at camps when with family and friends recreationally and not filming and editing it as a trip for YT. I personally have to ask myself how much value is added for the viewer in seeing me spend that extra night there. Does it add real value to the video or not, because time is precious. Already most trips include two full days of packing, driving, hiking in, camping, hiking out, driving home, unpacking and cleaning and managing gear. The extra night or two adds a lot on top of that. Hope that makes sense. Only my take on it of course.

    👍👍👍 A nice couple of hours spent two days back, watching this Post on the big screen TV. Feet up, blanket over the legs (7°C outside, windows and balcony door open .. for fresh air of course), Malti-Poo settled on the blanket, (we) eating a Brunch of Oats, Toast (she loves her toast) and Coffee rustled up earlier on the Balcony using an Esbit Folding Stove and Alcohol Gel Fuel Burner. No forest nosh that time .. home-alone with the Poo .. and she does not do well leashed around camp fires, cooking and such. Anyway, the Balcony serves well in really bad weather, cold acclimatisation (inter alia, bare feet on a freezing cold tiled floor .. it works!) and testing new recipes .. home-grown cook gear before taking them out. It's always nice to see Indie in the mix. A pampered pooch for sure .. and as it should be 😊. 'Weet Bix' .. one of the Breakfasts I grew up with back in the 50's / 60's in South Africa. Usually an occasional 'Treat' .. Porridge ('Mielie Meel', 'Jungle Oats' and later, 'Pro Nutro' being the staples 😊). 'Setting up on a Slope' .. no matter how slight. Respectfully, one should know that as soon as the lights go out, the 'dip' (angle) of a slope and the slipperiness of the sleep mat increases exponentially .. a given Law of Physics 😁. That Avo Starter looked scrumptious. I love Avos but don't get to eat many nowadays. Here in Switzerland, they are exorbitantly expensive and only bought when 'on special' 😏. Thanks for the share .. and am looking forward to the next. Until then .. take care ..

    Thomas you paint such a vibrant picture with your story telling. I love it. I too was a Pro Nutro kid, at home anyway, out in the mountains it was rusks. To this day my mom still makes delicious rusks for hiking trips. Ahhh, that 'Law of Increasing Nightime Slopeiness (sp?)' is a real thing for sure, and... it just got me again on the trip I've just done, Arggggg (lol). All the best to you and the Malti-Poo.

    @@adventureot 😊👍. A-ha .. rusks. Back in the 50's it was 'Outspan Rusks' and later, the 'Ouma' brand. Plenty to be found in RSA but I don't see rusks here in Europe. Pro-Nutro .. loved it .. but, boy o boy, it sucked up milk like a camel and water .. by the gallon 😳 😁. My little Malti-Poo 💕 .. thanks .. take care ..

    2 hours of full pleasure watching this video Kathy. You picked another beautiful area to set your camp up in for certain. You definitely have a sharp eye on the great places to put your camera to use. And I think that if the mouse chose to spend time under those campfire rocks surrounding your campfire, the coals surely were quite safe to disperse on the ground. Thanks again for letting us spend more time out in the beautiful New Zealand landscape. Take care and I will see you on your next video.

    Thanks for the feedback. I agree, I feel like if I rush over things and edit the trips down too much it doesn't give time to absorb the slow pace of the actual experience. These trips usually aren't go go go intense, so part of the accurate 'story telling' is to let the experience speak for itself.

    I love camping alone with my dog, but as an Aussie I've been spoilt with much dryer weather so I always try to avoid going away if it's meant to rain. But watching you brave rain, hail and snow makes me feel weak, and like I'm missing out because you make it look easy and beautifully relaxing cuddled up by a fire listening to the rain. You're inspiring me to get out there no matter what the forecast says! Thank you for sharing your adventures and giving us aspirations to be more like you!

  • @adventureot

    I definitely understand the attraction of fine weather camping so you can take be free to move about camp and not be too restricted to sitting in a tent. Wet weather camping just offers a different experience I suppose. Never anyone else on the track (they are home with a cup of tea, he he), so I get the place to myself. And then there is exactly what you describe, the cosy set up where you feel justified to just sit and listen and relax. If you have a nice set up rain camping can be SO awesome. Just be warned though, the clean up at home afterwards is a mission! My washing line is currently loaded with wet , smoky camping gear, lol.

  • @adventureot

    @adventureot

    It’s a tricky balance finding the perfect length. Personally my preference is around 45min, but this time I found myself cutting out so much content that it felt like I owed it to the trip to include snippets of everything. The great thing with YT creator stats is that everyone ends up feeding back in the sense that watch time and audience engagement is captured, so I’ll work out very quickly what length is best for the majority.

    Fully agree with your comments on the modern world.... less and less human connection... everything is online, shops are becoming a thing of the past, even pubs are less common, people debate on social media instead of face to face... its becoming a strange world.

    Yes I've looked at a few of those. Mostly they are a bit bulky in the way they fold up, so not so easy for light weight hiking. They also tend to be single walled so condensation builds up. I am not against them though so am keeping my options open. You might see me in one, one of these days.

    How does the KZread algorithm work for fast forwarding? Love the videos but who has 2 hours spare to watch the entire video. Was led to believe that fast forwarding negating the $ algorithm. I'll continue to watch but fast forward will be used !

  • @adventureot

    @adventureot

    5 ай бұрын

    The YT algorithm is a funny ever changing creature (lol), or so it feels, so I am not 100% sure. What I do know is that loads of people fast forward. What that does is gives creators insight into what they like, because what you choose to skip and what you stop at and watch is captured in a line graph so we can see peaks and troughs according to what content engaged people. So I think just do what is right for you and that will give me the feedback I need to see what is engaging people most. Thanks for even considering this. I appreciate it.

    Thanks 'All About Live' I loved your comment, seriously. It was so validating for me because I've made 50 videos so far and never once ever faked the rain (except for overlaying a rain layer over the thumbnail in Photoshop, but that's obvious, which is the point, everyone knows capturing falling rain drops in a still photo is impossible for a noob photographer, which I am). Cheers.
