That is one route that requires nerves of steel right out of the gate, good decision making skills, and razor sharp attention to detail. Being in the right gear at the right time helps too. Looking forward to driving this road soon.

I wonder what these truckers are getting paid? I'll bet they're the highest-paid truck drivers in the world.

The steep 10% grade requires 2 push trucks to make it over the pass

One time while climbing atigun pass our truck overheated while it was -40 or -50 and had to go up it at 10 mph. The radiator wasn't even covered yet we still overheated.

What always amazed me is the temperature swings on hills. It could be zero on top of beaver slide and -40 at the bottom. I worked out of PS5 for over 6 years and then up and down the line north of Fairbanks for over 9 years. I was in a four wheeler and was on the road a lot many times doing 300-400 miles a day. I have some experience driving tractor trailers in the early 80s on the slope before a CDL was needed up there. And from my experience of that you couldn’t pay me to drive a big truck on the road. I was never in to much of a hurry to not slow way down or stop to let a truck go by or have the hills. I was at PS4 a winter and would drive to Fairbanks at the end of shift. I’d leave in the early morning hours before someone told me the pass was closed so I could get home. I took a lot of pictures.

@@Chris_at_Home Pump Station 2 usually seems to be about 10 degrees colder, if not more than the coast.. But much calmer. Ditto on the hill top inversions
