  • @awd4g63ix

    No. He has a 2"-3" adapter that he can put on a standard king pin that will allow it to work in his 3" receiver, but without that sleeve, you can not hook to a standard trailer.

    I would of loved to see the inside of that Volvo too and it's it manual shift or not as a lot of Volvos are autoshift. Your Dodge is looking great. It will be a shame to take your personal Dodge truck and use it for a pilot truck later on after making it cool or personalizing it. Is the 5th wheel wore out on your tractor already? I thought it was "auto grease" and kept well lubricated.

  • @SteelyPaw

    @SteelyPaw

    I guess they drag some. In the logging industry in Michigan they have 9 axle trailers with the axles down all the time as they pull a lot of weight which is legal in that state. They have axles from front to back on their trailers. I am assuming the tires just drag and rub a bit as they turn sharp just as a bull dozer tracks skid as they do a sharp turn. I've watched them drag trailers sideways to position them for loading big logs with a big grapple excavator style loader and the side way's drag does not seem to hurt the wheels or tires in the least bit. I think the only axle that hinders turning is the lift axle on the tractor or axle number four. Often times owners spec out auto steer or turning lift axles for that reason, however if there is enough weight on the tractor even the lift axle or axle number four does not present a turning problem, and the stress on it does not seem to shorten it's life span. Sometime in a really tight turn, the driver will lift all the axles make the turn then put the axles back down again. The axles are more for complying with the state's rules than hauling the weight, but they do go hand in hand. In other words most axles are good for 20,000 lbs. each but you can put 60,000 lbs on an axle for a short amount of time without any damage if the axle has tires and is spec'ed out to hold that much weight even though it's not legal.

  • @Tyler-xe1es

    @Tyler-xe1es

    JOHNBEA They have to be lifted before a turn otherwise it can jackknife the unit unless they are steerable lifts but in that configuration they are not.

  • @SteelyPaw

    @SteelyPaw

    7 жыл бұрын

    I don't agree with you, because a tri axle dump truck (4 axles) the back tires are close to the cab and they do drag when turning and get accelerated tire wear, but the truck remains maneuverable without lifting any of the axles when loaded. So some trailers the tires can pivot a little bit but they still grind some making tight turns.

  • @sisutrucks

    @sisutrucks

    7 жыл бұрын

    yes they will, modern trailers have steer axles. some axle steerable or up to all. US equipment are just plane outdated designs, but gets the job done as well. just not as good.

  • @Tyler-xe1es

    @Tyler-xe1es

    7 жыл бұрын

    Pete_ Hine_Of_PA In a tri axle dump truck the unit will not jack knife... think about it for a second and you will understand why, but even in a dump truck if it is not a steerable lift it needs to be raised. who ever is not raising it does not need to be in control of that unit.

    Volvo is a god damn good truck. I put the 2001 Volvo I ran up against all the over rated Ken's, Peter's, Western's, Freightliner's, and Mack's. And at the end of the day, all those cool kids were shocked and impressed with my mighty blue Volvo. As far as I am concerned, Volvo and Mack are the last work trucks out there. All the rest are focused on air ride and luxury everything. Bunch of pampered show ponies is what those other trucks are. And I can say this with confidence, because I have run them all except Hino.
