Heavy Duty Shop Workbench with Lista Cabinets

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

As we progress down the road to shop greatness I came across an opportunity to pick up some Lista brand cabinets second-hand. If you are not familiar with these - they are beasts. This type of cabinet was built to withstand the harsh environment of a machine shop or manufacturing plant. Being able to incorporate these into my small shop means that I now have a very robust storage system for heavy items such as tooling down the road.
This build is pretty basic but I believe that this type of workbench/workstation can add TREMENDOUS value to anyone's shop. Whether you have a huge shop with every tool imaginable or are just getting started - there is something in here for you.
Part of this build involves cutting down and re-finishing a large butcher block countertop. This countertop has been used during its lifetime and I'm honored to be able to give it new life in my shop.

If you take out the top few drawers you can lag screw up into the bottom of the wood bench top and secure it. That’s how it’s done at the factory I work in.

Those cabinets are the best I know When I worked in a machine shop I was given the task of reorganizing all the wooded cabinets around the machines and the company went with Lista cabinets which I had to install These cabinets are heavy and solid as a rock Unfortunately when the company closed I wasn't able to reclaim some of those cabinets only cause I didn't have a garage only a basement and they would have been to big to get through the door and to heavy to drag them down 10 steps into the basement Dam shame for me would have loved to bring a few of those cabinets home for my wooddshop in the basement Lucky you of got them used cause they are really expensive new Those cabinets will last forever

You gotta love these cabinets! I just picked up three of the 7-drawer Lista cabinets for $60ea at an auction...I know, that deal blows my mind too!!! Man, I couldn't get my old Craftsman tool cabinets listed & sold fast enough. Got rid of them by the end of the week & never been happier. I'm using two of the new cabinets as a stand for my metal lathe, which sounds like you may end doing too. Best, @HoneyOnWales

I got 5 - 6ft ones for $30 each from work. Too bad I was at the Cali campus when they auctioned off the remainder.

I was screaming... NOOOOO to cutting that butcher block. I think a simple rounded router edge would look good.

Each drawer is rated to hold 400lbs and is 22"x22". I bought plenty of rubber kitchen cabinet liner for all of mine. I have several of the tall model of these.

You can take out a few of the upper drawers and secure the top to the cabinets with a couple of small lags. It will be rock solid.

I really envy your assembly table but I live in the mountains where we have mice so cars have to be kept inside at night. Never enough room. Ordered a sticker and t-shirt to help out a little bit. Glad to see your channel growing.

Enjoying the videos. Good stuff man. Was wondering to myself if cutting the top was the best idea if you’re wanting to get into machining down the road. The full length piece would have been a great base for a lathe. Either way it looks awesome, keep the vids coming.

Looks nice! I think the only thing I would've done differently is I would've made the guides, on the underside, out of the cut offs to kinda give it a wrap-around/waterfall kinda look but it's easier said than done. Nevertheless, I like the color combo of that baby blue with the natural look of the butcher block. Maybe bc it reminds me of my kitchen haha!

They are certainly some cool cabinets and it's great to see the Butcher Block top get a longer lease of life. But I wonder why you don't consider building your own heavy duty cabinets out of wood? No matter, I always love watching Shop Nation 👍

Know you where tight on space there, but you threw away a lot of working space by cutting that much of the butcher block off.
