It Is good idea
Those are the coolest ramps I've seen. So simple but effective. If I were to build them I think the only thing different I would do would be put cross-bracing in them from top to bottom at a 45°. Great work man.
Thank you. The idea is just wonderful. I think right away. that if the center of gravity is shifted back, then no lifting beam will be needed. The car drove in and rolled over under its weight and stood up straight.....I'll probably do it. THANKS again for the idea.
Oh man I would love this. I have a car that I need to remove frame rust and replace the body mounts. This will make the job 1000% easier.
I think you did a great job on this. Thanks for sharing your plans.
Thanks for sharing. This will be life changing. I'll share thoughts and experiences when built and used

As said before building and now using.... life changing tool !!! was a bit jumpy while driving on them with a gigantic ford ranchero... very difficult to see the left front wheel... automatic trans and weird acting carb... but all went smooth ! I may add something to tie/untie those two and gain some rigidity, we'll see Anyway, thanks again David for sharing your knowledge!

@@adrianthracite5585 I have mine in front of my shop and I have place those long closet mirrors to see my front so I don't have to get in and out. Works.
I'd like to see a cross tube added front and back through which another tube could be slid right across to link the two units together. You could drill the cross tubes for pins with holes in the links every two inches. You'd still have full track adjustability, but the cross tubes would reduce sideways racking and prevent a parallelogram collapse.
A real nice job David. Keep on making more stuff for us to see too. Peace
Personally, I'd probably drill several holes on either side and attach a large cross member that you could put some heavy duty pins through to help prevent lateral movement.

Good point. If u are taking off a toyota harmonic balancer from underneath, I feel like 180ft pounds might be some sketchy lateral force on this here. Still a great idea, he did a great job here 😁

I used to do it the poor man's way - stask up a bunch of 2x10 boards - staggered slope at the end todrive up onto them. Tody. all thse boards might cost as much as the the steel used in this one and the wood won't last nearly as long :-0)
Great build and presentation.
Great job 👍. I would add more triangulation in the weight bearing areas.
Excellent. I need to do a few jobs on my Landy and was thinking of building an inspection pit but then saw this. It´s probably cheaper to make and easier to take with me if I move than the pit! Thanks a lot mate. Subbed

Great Stuff. and great video. I will increase the length of the extensions and lessen the angle of the incline to allow for low clearance vehicles
Remember seeing this video years ago, and it pops back up on my recommended. Regards from Moray🏴🏴
Great idea well executed. Rather that lying under a vehicle that's not far from your face, with these ramps you have far more space, almost like having a pit. Great work !
The only improvement I’d make is to add a triangulation diagonal between some of the verticals to brace it - it might not need it but I’d worry about the domino effect. Edit, should have read the other comments! 😃

The back part is basically a giant triangle and will hold shape. That also means that the top and back vertical of the rectangle up front will stay in place. So if they welds are solid, it can't move. Left to right I'd definitely put in some cross member. Also in the top and bottom. And one in the front rectangle in each side to take some load of the joints.
@ianmib

@@michiel5160 the diagonal members of those ramps do not count as bracing, nobody should be using these. Also have you ever seen any engineered device that requires you to be under the load while lifting? This is one of the most ill-advised DIY disasters waiting to happen that I have ever seen on you-tube. But hey, if in doubt just add more metal glue, right?
Very very nice design and functional and use. I need to make these !! Thank you for sharing. You mentioned that the plans are available. oops ..I just found your plans in a subsequent post. thanks much David !!
Great idea. I might modify this to fit my riding mower for cleaning and servicing. Thanks.
Your ramps are brilliant me and my son love this stuff we love doing our motors and your ramps or should I say exact same ramps as yours is just what we need. We love em.
Bloody good job now that I’ve seen them the only change I would make is possibly make the base 25% wider than the top I wonder how that would go........
Excellent work. It's great that they're separate too not only are they adjustable to any vehicle they can be lost down the side of the garage when not in use. Might get round to making some myself. I've liked and subscribed too

you are right this is insane, stay clear of this death contraption. Buy a proper engineered lift. What is a trip to the ER going to cost you?
Looks like a decent idea though I would throw some lateral strength at key points across length and width box sections👍🏼

agreed, some cross bracing would make me feel a lot better about those. I am doubtful this is actually 'engineered'. And I dont like the idea of being under the vehicle while jacking it up, there has to be a better way.
Outstanding set of ramps there fella 👌👍
Nice! Thanks for posting!
Awesome idea can't believe I never thought to make these .needs way more work but good idea
Useful! Great job mate!
Thanks for the video. Excellent job. Subbed.
Great video mate ! Even greater name ! Long live the clan .... from Australia 🇦🇺 all the wae back tae Scotland 🏴
David, for me, just a brilliant idea, going by your kit and the amount of spare angle iron and rebar, YOU CAN WELD, and if it can hold a fully loaded van then brilliant, just need something to support a family car, I’m not building the Titanic, thanks for sharing 👍😃 subbed
Fabulous, one of the best inventions I've seen yet :)
Just the ticket. I mangled two mouldy ramps I made out of a manky old car transporter driving my diesel Alfa up on it and I've been eyeballing my scrap pile looking to make simple ramps it won't crush. You've confirmed what my gut feeling the 50x50x3 angle I have is both insufficient in length and thickness. 50x50x5 sounds far better, and it won't be all rusty. Subscribed, loving the delivery, and just enough detail to figure out the bits I need to copy.
This is pretty cool!
Great job 👍🏻
You're a talented genius, very elegant design and functionality. Thanks for uploading. Subscribed.
В этой конструкции замечательно абсолютно всё. Сложится она в бок это 100%, вопрос времени. Не хватает диагональных связей по узкой стороне трапа.

Great Ramps Brother, I hit those buttons for ya as a thank you for posting the vid and making your plans freely available. I see from the comments you actually respond to people who message you also so good for you Brother. Off to get some steel together now cause just like u I'm sick of clawing around on the wet ground outside my home here and at 55, it ain't getting any easier....until now 👍 Thanks and God Bless 🙏
Car showroom use something very similar. Personally I'd add a few cross-members too for strength and safety and you could modify the jacking bar and add another thinner one further along, to ensure the correct distance is "locked in" between them and so that they don't separate ;)
Best lift for home , nice work men
Excellent video. Terrific ramps.
For sharing with all of us, cheers m8.
Similar to what I’ve used but the removable ramps were hinged to take the weight at the back to save having to fit the legs.
Superb, congratulations 👏 in the future I think I will make my own ramps like yours.
You are a legend. I live in Fiji and the knowledge you have shared and its much appreciated. If you could come up with a simple design of a jack and jack stand in one would be grate. Keep it up and you have gotten yourself a subscriber. GB

Great metal work and very impressive idea. Was that all done with arch welding?
Never thought about ramps but I needed an auto elevator . Cool 👍
Nice bit of fabrication mate, good job. Have a look at car tilters, might be a good future project.
Good idea but I'ld prefer square steel stock for the framing and cross supports anywhere/everywhere to prevent tortional twisting; all it takes is a one time oops event and you are dead, or mamed for life. Each ramp needs to be locked into the other so no twisting or shifting occurs.

thing has zero cross bracing, its a death trap.
Any chance of some closeups of the welds? (curiousity mainly and see how others welds compare)
Clever idea. I am interested in building something similar. One concern i have is the working position. I am debating whether sitting/crouching under the car is any better than lying under it and have the vehicle raised on jackstands. Isn't it very frustrating neither be able to stand or lie down or on a platform with wheels on it. Sorry for the poor grammar. I think the added space for tools is worth it.
@DavidMcLuckie

Hey there. A few reasons it's better than the floor; I'd like to think the ramps were a little safer than working under jackstands. My neck doesn't get sore from lying on my back but having my head raised. Welding doesn't land spatter on you as much. I usually find myself kneeling or sitting cross-legged under a car. Another thing is you can jack the car up while on the ramps. This lets you sit at the side on a seat/stool and you can work on things like the brakes.
I'm doing this! Just subscribed thank you
I’m impressed. Very impressed.
looks great! very impressive!
Thank you for your explanations and your plans. I will realize these systems but with a modification. I will integrate a winch in case the vehicle breaks down.

Great build and video, when I was at school in the late 70s I designed something similar to this in my design and technology class but wasn't allowed to build it cos it was such a big build 😡 lol
Those are awesome! I wish I could weld.
I need these too
You're attitude is as awesome as this job. No electricity no nothing. I fucking love it. The leveler is brilliant too. The only addition would be to drop the wheels. So you could maybe install bottle jacks.. with integrated jack stands, insert blocks, pull the pins then release the pressure let them fall and you've got a full service available. Awesome.
wow very cool, this would be good for flood areas to save cars too =)
Wow those are some really long ramps. Im thinking about using my everlast and making something like these but maybe out of aluminum and theyd have to sectional so that I could store them in a smaller space
Well done! This is what i am looking for...Thank you!

The leg at the back can slip down like this, you should add some jack stand underneath the back cross member. I know there are 4 but it's only held by pressure, having a secondary lock can probably save you from a big accident

Im an engineer with a civil/structural background, this whole thing is sketch AF. I cant believe someone distributes these plans and that anyone looks at this and thinks its a good idea. Anyone who can't see what's wrong with this also should not be working on any vehicle.........
What an awesome set of ramps, I love the lifting bar..........also to all the guys saying it needs cross members and strengthening.......it's holding a van........the guy said he had a 3 tonne pick up on it............it's fine as it is. (I need to learn to weld) 😉

A little longer in the front and it will tip itself up. Used to have two of them at a car dealership about 5 foot high and self leveling. Meant to showcase cars more than anything but excellent for exhaust, transmission ect. work. Need one myself, looking for house trailer beams to build.
