Heating Curve Example: Turning Ice into Steam
When you heat ice into steam, there are five stages:
- Heating the ice to 0°C
- Melting the ice into water at 0°C
- Heating the water to 100°C
- Boiling the water into steam at 100°C
- Heating the steam to whatever Temp you finish at
You need to find q for EACH of these steps and add them together.

LEEEEEEROOOOOOYYYYY JIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEENKINS! Thank you good sir for making my day better in understanding physical chemistry and reminding about some LJ.
You're the man! Thank you so much
Thank you!

So simplified. but in practice, how can I convert ice in food directly to vapour without heating up the food? thanks
YOU GOOD BOIIIIII :)))))
LEEEEEEROOOOOYYYY......... JENKINS
the amount of heat to raise the temperature of one pound of water through 1 degree celsius is called
wer did u get the ΔHfus. and Vapor?

I don't understand why the q of ice is calculated with positive 4 degrees C instead of negative 4 degrees C?

Casey Pagan because heat is being added, and so energy is absorbed or added. I'm sure you've figured out by now though. =)>

@@thespeedyyoshi Nope. it is the temperature difference. He is heating the -4C of ice into 0C. That is why dt = ( 0 - (-4)) = 4C
Are you sure to use calculator for simple calculation😱😱
In English pleas xx
