Recently got one of these too. I did replace the filter caps but that's all and it works well enough. This reminded me I should calibrate it, and maybe look into the other mods. I think the meter buffering could be done better and more easily with an opamp. What do you reckon?

It works great the way it is yeah, and I really don't need such low figure specs since I don't find it necessary for the type of work that I do. The meter buffer only uses one simple transistor, a diode and two or three passive components and is fairly easy to make. There is a very well made kit available on ebay which seems like a good bargain I guess I might go that route in the future. I guess it can be done easily with an opamp as well for sure. Let me know if you come up with something! Really enjoy this generator it's exactly what I was looking for!
