Heater For Donkey Stall Installed - Our Miniature Donkeys sleeping like babies in their warm stall

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We installed a horse stall heater in our donkey stall. Now our two miniature donkeys are sleeping like babies on cold nights. Come see our toasty little donkeys laying under their heater and see the heater we installed from Kalglo® Electronics Co. - Great option for Equine stalls.

Thanks so much for your kind words and for tuning in to our channel. Although I grew up around horses as a boy, I had never thought how I would feel about having animals that were not in the house with us. So when we got the donkeys I knew I had to do something so "I could sleep" and not be worrying about them on cold winter nights. Even with the heater I checked on their stall camera and remote temperature sensor several times a night until I convinced myself they were okay. Watching them sleep comfortably right under the heater made them and me happy. And eeryone got a good night's sleep. Thanks again - Please stop back to see us again... Take Care...

@@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm Like you I concern myself with my animals comfort and happiness in addition to their basic needs, I just wish more people would. I wish I could put a camera in my horses stall but I’m thinking there are too many buildings in the way so I probably wouldn’t be able to do it without an additional router.

Love people like you - We too wish some people would take better care of their animals. Our Arlo wireless cameras have a pretty good range ( the stable camera is about 200 feet from the router in the house) We have connection issues on rainy or damp nights. But you do need somewhat of a "Line of SIte" in order to have them work well. Connect with us on Facebook if you'd like: facebook.com/clearcreekcabinTN

I was going to comment on how spoiled your donkeys are but I guess it’s not spoiling them when deserve it. 😀 looks like they have a great home. Garrett Wade sells screw starters.

Thanks for tuning in - They are spoiled but that’s what it all about.. Right? I’ve seen those screw starters but the screw part is different from this old 50 yo one - it actually looks like a screw - the Garret Wade ones have a different screw head - not as aggressive - Thanks though for the suggestion & thanks again for tuning in to our channel...

Hey - our donkeys love the heater - they sleep right under it on cold nights - it’s very dependable, high quality, and easy to clean - I highly recommend it - Ask for Bruce when you call to order it and mention my name (Gary Williams @ Clear Creek Cabin Mini Farm)

Thank you for the update. What is the coldest temp you see in your area and any health concerns with this heat source for the donkeys?

We can get down into the single digits occasionally here in East Tennessee. No health concerns from the heater whatsoever. We use it almost every night in the winter. They can lay directly under it if they're cold or lay off center from it if they are too warm. It is not a space heater - it works by radiating heat on them. But that said, it can keep their little 8'x10' stable in the 40's on a 15 degree night and that's with the door open to their nigh time corral (paddock) If you visit our facebook page (facebook.com/clearcreekcabinfarm) I show a post on Nov 23, 2021 of them sleeping under the heater on a 18 degree night.

Equines were not meant to live inside, to say nothing of heated stalls. That's why they develop winter coats--which they won't do if you keep them artificially warm. Low thirties or twenties even is perfectly tolerable for them. Hindgut fermentation keeps them warm, so plenty of hay (NOT grain) is warranted, and if they get cold, blanket them. You are falling into an anthrophomorpic fallacy, and it's bad for them. PLEASE do some research and speak with your vet!!!!!

Thank you for your “Opinion” but I have chosen to follow the guidance from the “Donkey Sanctuary, UK” (The most renowned Donkey Experts on the planet) along with the “Equine Veterinary Journal.” Both of whom have stated that Donkeys are not Horses and that a Donkey’s winter coat is not as insulating or as waterproof as that of a horse. In a 2017 an in-depth study was performed on the winter coats of donkeys and was published in the “Equine Veterinary Journal”. This study concluded: “Donkeys need access to a warm and dry place when they want it. They are desert animals and their coats show this clearly”. The study added, “Don’t be deceived by the fluff, it’s not as insulating as the winter coat of a horse….” Other studies have concluded that because a donkey’s winter coat is not as waterproof as a horse, extreme care must be used if one decides to put a blanket on a donkey. This should be reserved for elderly or very young animals only. Moisture can build up under a blanket and chill the donkey even further since their coat is not waterproof. Rain Rot is a common problem for donkeys if they are allowed to stay wet for long periods of time. So, keeping them dry is key to their health (And GOD knows, they love to stand out in the rain). So, the primary purpose of our stall heater is to dry their coats on damp, rainy, snowy winter nights and further reduce the chance of Rain Rot, while keeping them warm It is also key to note that WE don’t use the Kalglo Infrared heater in their Mini-Stable until we are well into the colder winter months. This allows our donkeys to develop their not so warm, but furry coats, as nature had intended. Therefore, I believe I have done the “Research” you suggested. BTW, our Vet loves our dry-lot paddocks, mini-stable, their dietary plan and the general care we provide for our donkeys. As does our Farrier, who touches up their hooves every 4 weeks, faithfully. And besides, who am I to pass judgement on a $2 million dollar a year company like Kalglo Electronics, who has been manufacturing Horse Stall Heaters since 1969. The same heaters used in some of the most prestigious Horse Stables in the country. My donkeys might not qualify to be on the Budweiser Clydesdale Team, but they certainly can live just as comfortably…

@@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm I don't want to argue and I applaud you for caring about your animals, but when equine health is involved, I feel I have to make a couple points: "Warm and dry" means a 3 sided shelter with a decent roof, not a heated, insulated barn. Also, considering the conflict of interest that's involved, you might WANT to consider passing judgement on any sort of opinion Kalglo Electronics espouses. Finally, "prestigious" and "stables" are not words that generally equate to happy horses, donkeys or mules, who were meant to live on 24/7 turnout. That's it. I've had my say and will shut up.
