Hearthstone esports is finished.

Ойындар

Blizzard have come to the incredibly unfortunate decision of essentially ending Hearthstone esports. My heart goes out to all who have been effected by this. I do think it is unfortunately a bit of a sign of the current climate- and further evidence that Marvel Snap will not be focussing on esports. But time will tell.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings, Falcone. I see a lot of comments on other videos saying “well this doesn’t affect me as a player, the game still exists” but for those who were involved, HS was so much more than a game to play on a bus ride, as your video illustrates

aw mate what an open and honest video. I didn't realize what an effect it had had on you but it makes total sense, Heathstone was the game that you launched into your professional career with, it is a big deal. What a great thing though that it gave you friends you still have today. I hope they find their way forward comfortably

My condolences, to those most invested in what was once a great esports scene. I can still remember watching live how firebat won the first HS Champion title at blizzcon. Brought one of my best friends into the game and loved it, since I loved blizzard worlds and Card games so much back then. It feels surreal to witness another blizzard esport die after what happened to Heroes of the storm. Stay strong in these darkest times of HS esports, competitors ( and Fans).

I never managed to get into HS myself, but having found your streams originally through... a different game, I've since found and enjoyed the content of many people in the HS casting community. They seem like a great bunch of people, and this sounds like a terrible situation. Thanks for sharing, my thoughts are with you all.

Hey Falcone, I thought this was a pretty sober take. Thanks for sharing. I actually think community esports could’ve been great for hearthstone with much less money from Blizzard, but they simultaneously wanted to “own” it while treating it like the money loser that it was. I think it could be good for SNAP if they took a more community-oriented approach and found light ways to support it.

Yeah, the community are already starting to organise things themselves, all they need are better in-game tools to support this. This seems like something Second Dinner could implement without too much cost/effort which would help grow enthusiasm for the game in the community.

I was really surprised by this. I'm so sorry for everyone affected and I wish they find new work soon. I'm so sorry I didn't realise how hard things were for you back then, I hope the therapy has helped. You work so hard and are so talented you deserve to be at the top. I'll keep up hope that snap does e-sports and I'll make sure they know that Falcone is the man for the job.

I feel you man! I'm one of the people that are going to stop playing the game because of this. May be a very small number of us, but it's still there. Why? Because I'm kinda silly. I played games like Hearthstone for their "what if" element. What if I ever went pro? It made me push for legend and look up tournaments that I could attend once the grind of life gets easier. It made me keep up with standard. Because...what if, man? Just...what if? I thought that If I kept playing and stayed somewhat sharp I could possibly dedicate a portion of my life to eSports. It was obviously a pipe dream, but an alluring one because it had that element of reality. It had a "what if" I could do this thing one day, maybe live as a professional player... I never caught my "what if" and I' wont be able to from the looks of it. It was cool while it lasted but as someone with less and less time in their daily life, it makes the decision to stop very easy for me. I've been contemplating it for a while and it's settled now. Finally. It tourns out as just another "what could have been" in my life. Onto the next what if! Maybe it works out :) Cheers and all the best to you.

End of an era I guess. I'm sure there are mixed feelings all around. I'm sure those affected are just as disappointed by the turn of events. Here's hoping their talents land them in places they'll still enjoy

Given that it's been several years since you last casted, the fact that it's still hit you this hard shows how much HS eSports meant to you so I can only begin to imagine what it's like for those still on the ground floor. Seems a pretty shit way to let things just peter out like this, I can't imagine they were losing that much money on this, if any).

I’m truly sorry to hear about this, especially for you, the other casters and crew. I actively played Hearthstone from Feb 2014 - Aug 2022. I finally left after starting Marvel Snap. Sadly, I have to say that Blizzard killed Hearthstone eSports on their own. They officially killed it today, but I think when they restricted outside tournaments and then moved to Grandmasters, it was the beginning of the end. A lot of the fun of that eSports scene was gone. Frankly, Grandmasters was kind of awful. I will always remember being at the World Championship when Surrender won. It was such a great afternoon. That excitement is what slowly left the tournaments and for me, eventually, the game.

This is a shame. I hope all the people losing their jobs are able to find something quickly. I hope esports is able to find it's footing and pick itself back up. There's a lot of universities in the US that are starting to have esports teams so there's a still a bit of hope.

I’ve been a regular casual player of Hearthstone since 2014. I never hoped to be a pro, but I have watched competitive HS religiously. Raven, Sottle, Darroch, Lorinda, Jia, and TJ have been on my TV/computer/phone screen for years. I watched you cast and missed you as a caster after you left. I have followed pro players and rooted for them every year. I am so sad to lose that. HS has been a formative part of my gaming experience. I will be keeping an eye out for casters and players to support in whatever comes next for them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. ❤

I appreciated the unique perspective you gave and I agree, having HS esports go down may not sink the game, but it’s definite hurt those heavily invested in HS as a profession. That sucks! I actually hope that Marvel SNAP doesn’t lean into a heavily supported tournament scene and I don’t think they need to. Battle Mode and other in-game service will allow communities to form, which hopefully creates something of a tournament scene. However, the collection system makes a tournament scene really challenging. Not having all the cards reasonably accessible makes for a high barrier of entry - especially if Pool 5 cards become very impactful. Viewership on Twitch still has a lot of room to grow too. There are probably other reasons too. For me, I hope they keep introducing cool modes to enjoy the game and let the game mature at a natural pace. I liked watching HS esports, but since Alterac Valley the game wasn’t connecting with me and I noticed it was very tilting anytime I started even one match. So I took this expansion off, no pre-orders (which was usual for me) and intentionally stepped away. Perhaps I’ll look back one day, but Snap is such a better game for my time and interest.

It feels very sad, I don't play HS as often as I did on past years, but I always loved to watch HS tourneys, it is just so fun and good to watch. I just feel sad. I hope the people affected get over it with better jobs.

Really dumb move by Blizzard. It's not just the gutting of the prize pools. It seems like they are aiming for minimum effort, creativity or vision. As half assed as it gets. Very sad for the players and community. Corporate world is a plague.
