I totally agree. I remember listening to this song over and over and torturing myself by listening to it while parked with my buddy in his car and being totally hung up on the wrong girl. Back in '87 after having a one night stand with a girl who I used to go to high school with but when we were in high school together, she liked me but I wouldn't give her the time of day... a couple years later I ran into her at a party and man did she ever grow up and looked amazing! The next day, she was with another guy and told me that she wasn't interested in a relationship with anyone... I guess she got the last laugh. Despite this, the 80's was the best decade ever!

Unfortunately I was to young to understand the who yr thing ect ect. I was born in 88. I started listening to 80s music in about 92 or 93. A lot of different songs and music videos I forgot about. Icwould rather listen to the 80s than 80% of this crap released in the last 20 yrs. This music is a lot better. The very first song I remember I herd I didn't know who sang it but I loved it, I was maybe 5 yrs old. I got a little older and saw the video on VH1. I instantly started to cry when it started. That song was Every Breath You Take by The Police. I still sometimes cry when I hear the song today but I am obsessed with it. When I was younger I would cry even if I was listening to the song on the radio. If I was out somewhere in the store I had to make up an excuse like go to the bathroom just so I wouldn't be crying out in public. I still cry over the song to this day. Heck sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, the song is playing in my mind and I start crying. I was at a wedding 16 yrs ago they had the song on repeat before the wedding started I almost started crying luckily I didnt.

Love this song, can't believe it only reached number 34 in the UK charts, at least in USA it made 12, but should've been easily a Top 10.
@MasterJediDude
2 жыл бұрын
I can tell you why. I was 17 when this came out and the competition was extremely strong. Not only for radio play, but MTV as well. And every metal and glam-rock band out there had this look and feel. The big hair, the moves/kicks and the synth-backed guitars. It was over-saturation, and for me - a lack of musical education. At first glance, they appear no different from Vixen or other girl bands. It was a few years later when I discovered the 70’s version of Heart and learned about Ann and Nancy. Only then, did I have a full appreciation of their skills and talents.
@gatekeeperboxing5898
2 жыл бұрын
@@MasterJediDude I also discovered their 70's stuff later too, some of which is their best work IMO. This song is better than These Dreams which charted higher in the USA, although in the UK These Dreams only charted at 62 alot lower than There's The Girl at 34. Generally though I prefer the more uptempo songs to the Ballads that seemed so popular in the 80's.

"Underrated" seems to be the overall consensus of opinion of this song here. "Underplayed" is my assessment: no one with an ear for music could "underrate" this track. Listen to that melody in the chorus; that is haunting, original and perfect for the subject matter in the lyrics.

@MasterJediDude
@gatekeeperboxing5898

Such an under-rated guitar player/musician/singer/song writer. Nancy & Ann Wilson are a powerhouse. Love them.
What I find unfair is how these two immensely talented women get no credit for writing such amazing songs throughout their careers. This is one of my favorites of their 80s songs.
My favorite Heart tune in Nancy´s voice. I love the way she flirts with Ramses the II (lucky man!) at 2:22. She is my crush since 1987 (because of this song!!)
That entire album is just pure magic.
They're both beautiful and talented! their voices do something to me!
I love this song, It is a city pop where I can feel the romance and memories of the 80s. It's a dreamy and sophisticated masterpiece. 2021. Seoul,korea
Heard it first in Summer 1988.. Fantastic song!
That was a great song..she should have sung more lead songs..they both are great...you got me through the 80s...god bless the hair bands...we had the best music
Ann was the lead vocals for Heart because she had the stronger more unique voice but Nancy's voices was also very unique and incredibly alluring. Both ladies were super stars but I always favored Nancy.

Wonderfull ! The best song from Heart ! 🤭
They are the best women arguably as a tandem. Thanks Nancy and Ann you broke the mold
One of my favorite songs by Heart! ❤
"Underrated" seems to be the overall consensus of opinion of this song here. "Underplayed" is my assessment: no one with an ear for music could "underrate" this track. Listen to that melody in the chorus; that is haunting, original and perfect for the subject matter in the lyrics.
Still be listening to this song for decades to come. Still rocks today even after all these years

Take me back to the 80s with no cell phones and leave me there
I was in 7th grade when this song came out. I miss the 80s. The best years ❤
A popular 80s sister band!
HEART, the best band ever put together. Their various line ups have all been incredible. My personal favourite is the first, Fisher ,Fossen Derosier & the sisters. Magic man, Crazy on you, White lightning...... incredible tracks.
Heart is an awesome group.

Love this!! reminds me of how fun the 80's were.
Nancy's voice is so beautiful here and she did a great job! Don't know why this didn't go to no. 1. Love the sisterly love at the end. :-) I could always tell when Nancy was singing lead because her voice is softer. Both women are amazing and have great voices.
Beautiful, excellent singers/musicians!!!
