The serious problem with Ann and Nancy Wilson is that even though they have complained about sexual predators in their business they still cover, and possible idolize, the likes of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page who are well known pedophiles.

Their talent stood on its very own. They were very powerful performers and in your face rocking just like all the other male bands. Man, they were something back in the day and it's sad how an industry can wreck a person's professional power to make a buck.

"This is what you should look like" is also what promoters do to men as well. I don't think that has anything to do with sex... Sure, with women you're going to get the "wear a skirt" but the men will get "wear this heavy leather jacket with spikes" or "don't show your wife/girlfriend in public" just the same as the other way around. As far as being praised for being a woman with a guitar it was just an uncommon scene so it was a normal reaction. It would be like a black heavy metal artist or anyone else that doesn't fit a common mold. Where you get the sexism is if someone says "let the men in the room do the speaking, honey" or some condescending stuff like that. Do you think Nancy would want to be known as a great guitar player or a great female guitar player? Most people would go with the former because it doesn't put you as high in a small category but rather to be mentioned with other well known good guitar players.

it absolutely has to do with sex when they’re making comments about her body & makeup. you men have a nasty habit of hearing women tell their experience and ignoring it to push your own agenda. do yall ever stop talking and just listen? is that impossible for you to do? you have two women telling you how sexist misogynistic their world was and yet you, some rando, swears you know better lol

  • @SweetSourMiss

I read their book. Just finished it. While I enjoyed most of it, I came away not liking either of the women very much. They were so catty to mention and drag down people for no reason. Stevie Nicks - wow did they insult her. Same with Courtney Love. They fooking stalked Joni Mitchell and Paul McCartney for years because they idolized them, and when Courtney rang up Ann because she idolized her - Ann completely ignored her. What a fooking beech. And did Nancy really have to add the stuff about Michael Deroiser wanting a shower after sex? Maybe he felt dirty sleeping with her after being with Roger for long. Maybe he felt the relationship was dirty and was wrong. Also, the part about Sandra Bernhardt. Geez. Catty! These women are extremely gifted and talented but astonishingly self unaware to their own shortcomings. Ann gripes about being called over weight, but then slams a reporter by calling him overweight. Oh the hypocrisy! I just couldn’t even finish the last few chapters.

ImSuperHauter I agree with you on some things. I've lost respect for Ann. I still give Nancy a chance. But I think the same about DeRosier. I think there was an initial attraction, he had to give her a signal for her to move forward (all of her relationships have always been driven by other people), unlike Ann, Nancy doesn't throw herself at a guy without feeling the confidence to do so. So I think they thought it wouldn't be a problem, since Roger had exposed himself to the whole band with other girls, but after seeing Roger and all his drama, DeRosier wanted to back off (and that's why he took a shower), which was disappointing to Nancy. And I think she doesn't take rejection well, or when she feels hurt. As for the "harassment", I think Joni Mitchell, was never really bothered by Nancy. Although getting someone's phone number and flooding their answering machine with messages is rare. But Nancy and Ann are two very different people. I've seen Ann trying to get by when signing autographs, while Nancy stops to sign each one without questioning whoever she asks. Or even sitting in her car, patiently signing a tower of albums. Yes, we can always self-improve, but Ann is definitely not my cup of tea.

They are not founders, but they are considered original members, since both have been there since the first album and were the main ones signed by the record label. The founders' Heart (Roger Fisher and Steve Fossen) only played covers, which the label didn't want either. The Wilsons wrote the songs from the first album. Nancy arrived even before Derosier and Lesse. And she didn't get to replace another member, she got to add a new (or two) non-existent element to the band's sound: acoustic guitar and harmonies.
