I use a regular 1/4'' foot that comes with Janome M7. You can try no.9 needle and set the stitch length a bit wide (3.0mm) for thick layers. walking foot might help as well if you have one.

What kind of thread and needle do you use? Can I use a universal 90/14 needle and regular cotton thread?
