It's even worse when you didn't plan on listening to it but you accidently press the button and then you barely recognize yourself.

As a musician who listens to their own recordings, this is accurate 😂

I remember in middle school we had an assignment where we had to record ourselves and I literally cried in the middle of class hearing my voice played back I hated it so much

When I hear my own voice, I want to apologize to everyone I've ever spoken to.

It must be the way our brain processes hearing our own voice that makes us cringe. Judging by the fact that others do not seem to be traumatized to the point of disassociation from the voice that they're hearing tells me that they hear my voice differently than I do. I hear my own voice and I automatically tell myself that it isn't me. It is fascinating that so many are uncomfortable hearing their own voice though.
