I'm pretty sure that "ICE" is pretty much windshield washer fluid. It's used for water/methanol injection. The injection of it into the intake stream instantly reduces the intake temps by evaporation cooling. This could be pure water, but that is kind of an obvious problem in a sled. The alcohol is simply a high octane fuel that mixes well with water and evaporates fast. The engine computer normally sees this intake temp drop and allows more timing and/or boost. There is much more science to this but that's the short of it. It showed up in the later part of WW2 when superchargers became common trying to keep power up at high altitudes. I used to use and tune this stuff all of the time back in my previous life building turbo drag and street racers and EFI tuning.

Maybe I'm off. Is it something that needs to be refilled as it's used? I heard the rumor they went to a water/meth injection system. Coolant would indicate a Water to Air Intercooler. But that wouldn't normally require a special fluid. But would that be above BRP? We are going to the Novi show show next week. I'm thinking I'll get to see one.

  • @mudbrats

@@oldjarhead386 there will be one at Novi… it does sip the ICE so needs to be topped up. Doesnt constantly use ICE but in order to get 180hp out of this, you will need coolant. If you empty the tank, u will just get 165hp. Apparently the ICE draws after about 10seconds of hard accelerating

Thanks Gary, Sounds like water/meth. We used to tune them with pump pressure and nozzle size. The activation point and the total flow also had to be tuned. Problem is that if it failed the engine had no way of knowing for timing and fuel adjustments. Later systems had some simply fail safes we could tune by the intake air temp drops. But I've been out of tuning and racing a while now. To have boost and the water control in with the rest of the engine control systems would be an answer to prayers for me back in the day. BTW, it's way lighter than an air-water intercooler! Heavy systems. Air to Air interncoolers IMHO much better for overall use. The Air to water systems were great on the dyno. You could ice the crap out of them and make internet power numbers. But once that water got heat soaked they aren't very affective.
