apart from "If eternity should fail (Demo)" by Bruce Dickinson, and "If eternity should fail" by Iron Maiden, there is also "Eternity has failed" from the upcoming album. It will probably be an evolution of the demo song, I am curious.

It's great that Bruce and Steve can have this relationship in trading songs between different solo and bands pursuits

I'm an old-school Maiden Fan. This is the song that definitively opened my mind to the New Maiden Era and it's now one of my all-time favorites. Up the Irons!!!

@@humanactivated1017 Haven't bothered with Maiden since The Final Frontier. They have solid albums from Brave New World through Dance of Death and finally to A Matter of Life and Death. But I don't like any album they've made after these. Each of these newer albums have exactly one song I enjoy, but the rest just sound weird and off imo. Obviously, the vast majority of fans disagree with me, but that's their prerogative.

@@humanactivated1017 I have been a Maiden fan since a friend gave me Powerslave back in 1985. If I had to pick between the classic albums with Bruce (Number of the Beast through Fear of the Dark) or the new albums with Bruce (Brave New World through Senjutsu) I would have a very hard time making that choice. The classic stuff is more metal with the newer stuff being more proggy (which I like.) Speaking of giving things a chance, have you ever listened to Bruce's Skunkworks album? I love it. It is the least metal of his solo records but it is great hearing his voice being used for a different style of music.

Great opening to a fantastic album, seeing it performed live was epic.

Maidens version is a serious upgrade. Cool to hear the demo but no way it is replacing maidens in my stereo.

one of the best tracks in reunion era and overall too.. 100 % pure MAIDEN... the intellectual theme and the lyrics are absolutely great and the title of the song make it an absolute masterpiece

Great Video! This is possibly my favorite track on Book. Or a very close 1st or 2nd to the Title track. Very interesting background on the song. I do like the tempo picked. But I am really looking forward to Bruce's version. The Demo version sounds great, also.

The fact that we are even comparing Roy's bedroom demo to a Kevin Shirley's album production (or "production") is already telling more than enough. Hopefully Eternity doesn't have to do as much heavy lifting on The Mandrake Project as it did on the Book of Souls.

I mean kudos to Bruce & Roy for coming out with this awesome song in the first place! Both version are awesome but if we want to go into details the drum alone already made the Maiden's version better, that's why Maiden is one of the best band in the world as every member of the bands has different creative inputs to enhance any song they made.

I love your videos. None bias reviews. If eternity should fail is one of my favorite songs. I have already purchase the TMP and can’t wait to hear that version of the song. Thank you and God bless Ukraine.

I find it difficult to judge Bruce's original version: Firstly, it's a demo so who knows how it would have sounded once finished for the album! Secondly, we're all used to the dynamism of the Maiden song and it definitely makes it work as an album opener, but you could see Bruce's version slotting in as a mid-album track very nicely 👌

I expected a lot more difference, like more Roy-Z style than Maiden. But the demo was already hyper Maidenish harmonics. I am actually more thrilled to hear the reworked version (as I understood correctly) that will be a new song on the album based on it?

When I heard the Maiden version years ago, I thought the song had Roy Z all over it. It was the only song I liked in the album (minus the cheesy "let's play the same thing faster, sloppier and without any groove" bit towards the end of the song. It's actually the best Maiden song since The Chemical Wedding 😉

Fact. In metal, its Bruce, Dio, and Halford. Sometimes, interchangeably. Metal greats include Geoff Tate, Michael Kiske, Ozzy, Eric Adams, Sebastian Bach (peak), John Bush, Joey Belladona, Phil (CFH), and more. For me, Bruce is second only to Robert Plant. Ian Gillan deserves his praise as well.

@@AmericanNationalist852 Halford’s highest note is C6. Bruce’s highest note is C#6 which is a semitone higher.

I personally like Roy’s mix a lot more than Kevin’s . But maidens got better dynamic.

I really like the strip down darker demo version but my favorite is still the Maiden version and also one of my favorite tracks since Bruce's return to the band.

Unfortunately I missed the uploaded demo track before it got taken down. It's hard to compare a demo track from a different band with the same singer but a different overall feeling. Demo tracks are very raw in both production values and feeling vs the final version we'll hear on the solo album, so I'll wait until the solo album is released to pass any judgement. That said, I do agree with you that I like the much more audible bass in the demo which adds a lot of texture to the song. Hopefully that remains true in the final version! And I can't wait for the Christmas T-shirt to arrive. It'll be a nice addition to the glow in the dark King Diamond Halloween T-shirt I bought this year. 🤘🤘🤘 BTW, have you heard Tarja's Dark Christmas album. Her voice is a bit too operatic for me, but I appreciate her approach 😈 I stand in solidarity with Ukraine, wish you and your family the best heading into a difficult winter, and apologize for the lack of action my country (USA) is taking right now solely due to internal political strife.

Since he kicked in all Maiden albums sound so cheap... 30 years ago LOUDNESS vinyl have incommensurable better quality!! Where has finished M. Birch straightforward sound?!

Its close but i prefer the demo, as it has that extra curiosity factor, plus i prefer Bruce's clean spoken outro. Hope you get the vinyl soon and crank it to 11.

Go to the Iron Maiden official channel and look for the play list "Book of Souls : Live Chapter". I believe you will find what I think you are looking for.

I like the crunchy rhythm on the demo. I genuinely expected the fast section to not be in the demo, it sounds like a maiden addition

As a fan of IM in the 1980s (I bought the 1st album as soon as it was out) - but after the 7th, drifted off.. then Book of souls - we'll - my number one played albums for the last 5 years... say no more... not a weak track - not ONE that's not 10/10... thanks for this ...(I think you know which one I love).

I don't know, from a mere sound point of view (how the instruments sound) I prefer the demo version. I'd like Iron Maiden version (arrangement and musicians) with the sounds of the demo. You can hear the bass, and I love how its simplicity.

Hard to choose from both tracks, but....as you said....both sound maiden-like afterwards. It´s a very a long discuss about, and certaly the eternity about which is the best never fail.

I think that Writing On The Wall is Drop-D as same as Adrian Smith on Time Machine.

The BD version, ironically, reminds me of Helloween.

"First Maiden song in Drop D" actually technically not true. Adrian Smith said that at least he was tuned this way on songs like The Fallen Angel on Brave New World and a few others.

Bro, I love me some solo Bruce but I'm not even going to entertain that his solo output is on the same level as Iron Maiden. Regardless it was cool to hear the demo.

For me the Iron Maiden sound is Steve and Nicko galloping.

One of the best Maiden openers of all time alongside Moonchild.

I like the production on the demo. Too much new Maiden has too little "space" to the mix, with all instruments turning into mush together.

I think the Iron Maiden-version is better than the demo. Might be biased by familiarity and production. An IESF is probably my favourite track from post-reunion Maiden. The demo is not bad at all, but I prefer the Maiden-version right now. However, I was slightly disappointed when Nightmares didn't appear on the tracklist for the album. Would've been very intreresting to hear what would've been Steve's first choice!

The live version of eternity is the best on book of souls live chapter

Not a fan of Book of Souls, however the live versions of the songs from that album sounds so much better

Much higher BPM, I would not agree! Much would mean much, and this BPM change is not so much, overall maybe few BPMs more. I am lazy to open DAW and get exact BPMs thou... but I'd say it's like 5 BPM tops, which is really not much.

Maiden sounds much, much, much groovier. Honestly, apart from Skunkworks, Bruce's albums have almost no groove to them. That's why SW will always be my favorite album.

Skunkworks is hands down my favorite Bruce solo record.

But to compare Bruce's solo stuff to maiden is a no brainer maiden are far better musically superior up the IRONS

Should have let that one stay with Maiden!! And I thought Senjutsu was bad, Mandrake Project is worse, way worse. At least Senjutsu is a metal album! Not saying Bruce's new album had to be metal, but at least good hard rock. But that it ain't!! Huge letdown!!

IM version is much better, in my opinion. And I'm slightly disappointed by the Afterglow of Ragnarok. It starts heavy, and then melts away. Video is a cheap joke. I'm waiting for the full album.
