One of Dave's many appealing qualities is how understated he is. Just this ordinary looking, cool and apparently easy going fella that is an absolute beast at his chosen craft. No bullshit, no mouthing off or histrionics. Just gets on the stage gig after gig and delivers - every time. Legend.

He is not underrated in any way. There is however serious "competition" out there, and comparing to innovators like EVH, YJM, Vai, Lifeson, Morse, it is difficult to find a spot at the top, even more when mentioning big dogs like Beck, Blackmore, Iommi and Angus. All IM 3 are great, but what they do, others had already done.

I’ve always been most drawn to Dave’s playing. He is right at that sweet spot of being a really confident player, yet he has no ego. He is as humble as can be. No one’s legato is like his. His playing just gets more gorgeous as the years go on. I love his live solo improvs and how he just lets it all flow out of him. He has such a command over his guitar when he plays. So many to choose from but my favorites from him are Hallowed Be Thy Name, Where Eagles Dare, Charlotte the Harlot, 22 Acacia Avenue, Powerslave, (I know it's short) but what he does on Flight of Icarus, & Still Life doesn't get the attention it deserves. On The Trooper, Adrian plays his solo, which is perfect and precise, then Dave steps in, and does his mind boggling solo, which is just so smooth, and seems to fly right off the guitar, with ease and poise. In my opinion, Judas Be My Guide is Dave's most technical and unique for his guitar technique solo. I really like the Rock in Rio live version of his solo in Sign of the Cross. However, solos like the one in Powerslave and the Parchment have the power to make you become empathetic to the story of the song as a whole. And his interlude in the Nomad is one of the greatest Maiden melodies ever. It plunges you into a mix of mystery and surrealism - an absolutely remarkable piece of art. Dave is an excellent songwriter as well - The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg is the ultimate proof for this statement. Overall, Dave is a great person and an amazing musician!

Not as good a songwriter as Steve, sadly, so he doesn't really get to play much in "epic" songs Poland meanwhile was half of what made early Megadeth sound truly unique They're less blues-based than Murray (and more Jazz influenced), but both are some of the fastest, cleanest players in hard rock and metal I've ever heard

Rips the tastiest improvised leads which I love since hearing the exact lead over and over is boring, and it shows just how insanely good Dave really is. Some of his live leads are so blistering fast they are hard to watch.. Take the lead from the trooper in envivo on the les paul.. That lead is disgusting, it shows Daves insane speed and mastery of the fret board since he does even look at it.

As a long time fan of Iron Maiden like everyone else, every current member is vital to be in IM and I can't imagine an album or live performance without anyone of them. I was devastated when Adrian left in late 80s followed by Bruce a few years later. But now they are complete. As for Dave's playing, he is one of the greatest guitarists in the world but among the 3 guitarists, I've always been a huge fan of Adrian's playing. Adrian probably plays the most accurate solos when compared to the studio versions. But I love all 3 guitarists and wouldn't want anyone of the 6 members missing. Up The Irons!

The smartest decision Harris ever made was to get Davey back in the band and Harris continued to make good decisions for the band ever since. Harris and Murray's chemistry alone, not too mention with Adrian and the other's is just phenomenal. Few bands get on as well as these lads do and the musical depths or arrangements that they plunge into just in the middle of one song is incredible and tight. All members are each individually crucial to the Maiden sound, imo. Back in the day, I was concerned when Clive Burr was let go and I love Burr's drumming (RIP), that it would hurt the band, but Nicko brought even more to the band with his energy, passages and persona. Tis, truly one of thee greatest sounding rock/metal bands of all time. Up the Irons!

It just so happens that my very first concert i attended was none other than Iron Maiden, and the Scorpions, this was way back in 1982 at the long beach arena when i was still in high school, crazy thing is Iron Maiden opened for the Scorpions as they weren't even the headliner yet but they sounded magnificent non the less, Scorpions were on there Blackout tour and Maiden was The Number Of The Beast tour, they were both fantastic performers as well as extraordinary musicians, even though I'm 56yrs old i still remember that show very clearly and with great fondness, the first band that came on stage was a chic band called Girlschool, which i never heard of until that night (i honest to God thought they were guys at first) back in those days all the metal bands were wearing all that makeup and spandex stuff so it was tough sometimes trying to make out who exactly was who, yah know!. Ah! Oops!!! Sorry to ramble on, i love Iron Maiden and i love your youtube channel, and yes Dave Murry is an one of a kind awesome, phenomenal guitarist and musician.

Hard to pick a "favorite". Dave Murray has literally defined heavy metal guitar my entire music listening life. I was fortunate enough to live and go to school in Long Beach, CA in 1985 and experienced Live after Death, Live. Yep, my screams are indeed somewhere on that album, no lie. My ears may still be ringing - maybe from that night, I cannot think of Iron Maiden without "The Trooper" coming to mind. Dave's riff on that song and he and Adrian's solos are iconic Iron Maiden! Still, to choose between "The Trooper," "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Powerslave", or even "Running Free", there are too many to choose a true favorite.

Dave, is one of a kind. I've got three used picks from the 80's tours. Favorite solos, from the Paul D, era Sanctuary, Bruce era, Moonchild and with Blaze, The Clansman. The axes you forgot to mention his wild LADO from Powerslave and ESP used on the 7th son tour.. My most memorable live solo, in 1983 was the first time they played South Florida, he began buy playing the intro to I Wished I was in Dixie and right into the Star Spangled Banner... Up the Irons!!!

I admit - growing up, I was a Murray loyalist, and I appreciate him still to this day. I think he’s an untouchable guitarist. Great feel and technique. However, I’ve grown more accustomed to Adrian’s style of playing. His phrasing and melody are impeccable, and as a guitarist, I find inspiration in his playing. I even own a Jackson Adrian Smith model. All three guitarists in Maiden offer something different - Gers with melodic runs, Murray with his ferocity, and Smith with his phrasing. Al in all, a great team. For me, Smith is my guy, but Murray (like Harris) is the original and the standard bearer. All due respect to Dennis Stratton - him and Murray were the right team for the debut. Great channel and content you have here.

I saw Iron Maiden for first time in 2019 in about the 3rd row of the Pit. I had only listened to Maiden for the first time a few days prior. I was on the side with Dave and Adrian for this show. I remember thinking who is this grandpa on stage. That being said, he blew my mind was amazing expecially on his solo in Flight of Icarus. I saw them again last month and was on Janick and Steve’s side. Quickly became my fav band ever

Tiene su estilo inconfundible, buen gusto para los solos, incluso hace cosas que muchos guitarristas no hacen que es cambiar los solos cuando los toca en vivo. En mí opinión está entre los mejores guitarristas de heavy metal.

Dave is a tremendous guitar player. And a very humble and understated one at that. A true master of his craft who SHOWS you the love he has of his instrument every time you see him play. Always smiling with a quiet voice and always so fluid in his playing. That's why he was known as the Blonde Bomber. I love all his solos but an old one in particular comes to mind and that is the one from Strange World. Please listen to it gang. Then listen to it again. And again.

I've always thought that the Smith/Murray guitar duo has 'always' been extremely underrated. And, Dave is extremely underrated as well. I've been a Maiden fan since '85 and I've always thought of him as one of the best. My personal favorite, though I love all his solo's is in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Dave has always been my favorite. I love the way he plays. Dave is Maiden! I have been a big Maiden fan since 82. I love all of Dave's solo's, so it is very hard to pick a favorite. I really like some of his slower solo's like the slow one on Phantom of the Opera, and the slow one on Powerslave.

My entire life when I listed Dave as one of my favorite guitar players, among guys like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and David Gilmour, people would give me weird looks. Dave's playing is awesome, definitely the most fun to watch live. I wish he'd do some solo stuff Up the Irons!

It's not "virtually" impossible to imagine a Maiden show without Dave. It is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE! They'd never replace him if something drastic were to happen. Dave is a BEAST, no pun intended haha. My favorite solo of his is Rainmaker, other amazing ones are: Killers, Age of innocence, Brave new world, Nomad, Powerslave...the list goes on. Hugely underrated and my biggest guitar influence. UP THE FUCKIN IRONS Dave! 🤘🤘💥

Dave has always been under appreciated and underrated for his incredible contributions to Iron Maiden and metal music in general. Not from the fans but of course from the media and many publications. He is a quiet humble guy who isn't about being gimmicky or flashy. I think he's one of the premier guitar players out there. I'm a huge fan of Adrian as well. Up the Irons Cheers

My favourite one is the one on Piece of mind album in the song called Where eagles dare..i love the expressionality and pathos in that solo and the great use of tremolo bar, maybe it's not the most elaborate and complex in terms of technique but that's what I love the most..however, Dave is one of those guitarman that made me want to learn to play the guitar, he is expressive, passional like few others in the world, i adore his legato technique thst is very hard to perform... maximum respect for a great guitarist..

Dave is one of my favorite guitar players; his use of legato technique is just awesome! When I was coming up in the early 80s, I was blond (with as long hair as I could get away with in Catholic school) and playing a Fender/Squire Stratocaster (my first good guitar) and my best friend was dark haired and playing a Fender copy P-bass, so we were Dave and Steve! Good times...

I don't know who plays the opening solo (starting at 0:15) on Judas Be My Guide, but that very underrated and forgotten masterpiece was written by Dave, and I believe it was at least Dave's idea to put that solo piece in that spot. What an awesome way to start a song!
