"The chief executive of UnitedHealth Group told investors Friday that he "appreciates" the Biden administration's decision to more slowly implement its crackdown on overbilling in Medicare Advantage, a privately run, government-funded program that the Minnesota-based insurance behemoth touted as a key profit driver in its newly released first quarter earnings report.
UnitedHealth, one of the largest Medicare Advantage providers in the U.S., reported $91.9 billion in revenue for the first three months of 2023-15% growth year-over-year-and more than $8 billion in earnings from operations, exceeding analysts' expectations."*

American medicine is for profit as we are not a Socialist country. In those countries that have that system, you pay 50% of your salary your entire working life paying into a fund to handle this. Denmark has this. Japan charges other countries a fortune, low $500,000+ for scanning equipment that costs them nearly pennies to make, that money is put into a fund for national healthcare. In Germany most doctors don't make $100,000 yearly, more like $55,000. The list goes on, but the point is that nothing is free, it has to be paid for somehow.

I have worked as a medical biller and treatment authorization specialist since 1984 and I can verify the information in this video. I have become so disgusted with the health insurance companies and how they constantly deny services to patients. Having to call patients to try to explain why coverage was denied is also hard. They get angry with me, but it is the health plan that refuses to approve the treatment even after I have provided every supporting document they have requested. People who who still hold onto the belief that America has the best health care system in the world are deluded. As long as we have a for profit health care model and politicians who prostitute themselves to wealthy donors and corporations things will not change and will probably get worse.

It was so frustrating having to appeal over half of the claims that were billed just to be denied again and again. Also, I have kept my mom off of the Medicare "Advantage" programs. They are a rip off. She has traditional Medicare with a supplement to pick up what Medicare doesn't pay. It's more expensive, but her healthcare costs are fixed every month and she can get ANY healthcare that she needs without having to pay any additional money.

@@johnswansen192 it’s because the American Medical Association (AMA) has had a crusade against any HMO-style healthcare system since 1940. Once the doctors who established the AMA partnered with the insurance companies in PPO-style coverage models, which are almost exclusively for-profit, they demonized anything else and essentially have brainwashed entire generations of physicians into thinking that they won’t get paid if they advocate for HMO models, which are largely not-for-profit. I am an employee of a nonprofit healthcare organization, and I can tell you, all the physicians and surgeons get paid VERY well, almost as well as all of the top paid physicians in for-profit privatized hospitals nationwide. Understanding America OR NOT--- 72 million Americans voted for a "genius" racist, conman, rapist, 8X bankruptcy specialist to be their fascist leader cuz they IDENTIFIED with the "genius." They believe he's BETTER than God or maybe was sent by God, even tho the genius doesn't have a clue about God. Yet he's all in on letting the country be controlled by christofascists esp the control of women's bodies by all those medically educated hillbillies cuz he himself loves to grab specific parts of women's bodies. His worshippers are all ready to vote for the "genius" again cuz America was SOOOOOO GREAT while the psychopath was in office IF you had a vivid imagination. And this genius is just one in a long line of complete morons that low IQ Americans gave power to over the last 80 yrs, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, the Bush boys, Trump. Can't imagine why American is teetering on a side of a cliff as 45% of these brainiac Americans walk around threatening the other 55% of the country with 500 million weapons as they believe drag queens and books about black baseball players, a black bus rider, a mockingbird and a child killed by NAZIs in WW2 threaten their children's ability to be as emotionally stable as their racist parents who's little brains are stuck in 1950s Mississippi. Buying a coffee without bringing your assault rifle can be frightening for little boys with issues. And Books are scary! Education sooooo progressive! Wouldn't want any indoctrination about the awful things a kid could learn singing about rainbows written by Dolly Parton threatening their kid's emotional development. But christian bullshit shoved down kids throats and up their backsides is perfectly acceptable cuz six bought off religious nut bags in black robes say so. As does another RED robed nut bag in that Land of Make Believe-- TEXAS. Land of FAKE Jesus Values as the Red Robe annointed himself DR KAZ-- he now decides for 330 million Americans WHAT medicines are acceptable, as long as the Federalist Society gives him a hint, amazingly NO medical school, knowledge or any research required. Why it's almost as if Dr. Kaz appointed himself as GOD himself. Crazy RIGHT? America actually LETs these CRAZIES vote. Can't imagine WHY America is in trouble or the laughing stock of the entire planet. Please BEAM ME UP SCOTTY-- I can't take anymore . . .

I said who pays for that, you are going to bill medicare for two check ups? I said no thanks seems a little fraudy. United Health Care denied all stroke patients approval to our acute rehab unit for over a year. My job as a certified rehabilitation nurse was to evaluate stroke patients as to what level of rehab a patient met. They denied every one as being too good for acute rehab or being too bad for acute rehab. I got a call from one of the daughters of a patient that had been denied. She wanted to know why he was denied. I told her I could not explain why as that I and our medical director felt he met all the requirements for acute rehab, but his insurance denied him. I gave her the phone number and name of the person who had given me the denial. I got a call several hours later and the denial was changed and he was approved. I called the patient’s daughter back and asked what she had said to the insurance person. She said, I was at the hospital yesterday and reviewed my dad’s chart with his doctor and we both thought he met the criteria for acute rehab. If the did not approve him, I was going to call the Ohio Board of Insurance and report them for fraud as they were not giving him the product he had been paying for. I then told them that I am an RN and work for Michigan Blue Cross and my job is to review and approve or deny patients for acute rehab.

At least for this upstanding republican senator.

Australian citizens, where a doctor requires a diagnostic colonoscopy, CT scan, blood tests, etc. for recognised complaints, get it free. Government pays way less than US citizens. This and subsidised medical appointments, free State hospital care, etc. are paid for by 2% tax (separate from income tax, but done via standard tax return) on taxable income, plus 1 to 1.5% added tax on high income people who don't have private health hospital cover.

Speaking as an insider, companies get paid more by CMS than standard Medicare payers. One person told me that, if you manage it right, you are sure to make money. George W created these to help drain the Medicare fund. Medicare Advantage companies are paid per capitation. This means that they are paid a flat rate based on the illnesses and severity of patient conditions. As you indicated, increasing the member's general conditions would increase their capitation rates.

We need Medicare For All here in the U.S.! What's more "pro-life" then ensuring every person living here has guaranteed affordable healthcare regardless of their job? If we all had access to healthcare, we would have the "freedom" to live long lives without having to worry about medical bankruptcies. Taxes will go up, but overall medical bills will go down. If some of us need additional healthcare, then we have the "choice" to purchase private insurance. If every other developed country (Canada, Germany, U.K., France, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan, S.K., H.K., Singapore, Australia, & N.Z.) can implement this system & save money, then why can't the U.S. do the same to help "Make America Great Again" for everyone when it comes to healthcare? & If U.S. citizens die from lacking access to affordable health insurance then we are failing our country's promise of defending "life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness" for its citizens as well as "promoting the general welfare" of every person living here.

True that! Problem is, the "pro-life" movement doesn't really care about life, it only cares about control and subjugation. The denizens of the far right don't even realize that Republicans have been using abortion as an issue for years just to rile them up so the GOP can pursue its agenda of tax cuts for the rich, corporate welfare and screwing over the average American.

I belong to United Health care. I went for a yearly physical which is free. I happened to be congested at the time I went. The physician charged me for 2 visits. Over $400.00 for the yearly visit & I can't remember for the 2nd visit. I called United Healthcare & complained. I asked United Health who is looking into the abuses of the charges & got no response. They did make it right in the end & took the 2nd visit off my bill. Who ever heard of a yearly office visit costing over &400.00 when all they do is ask you a few questions, check your blood pressure and listen to your heart & lungs with a stethoscope???!!! She did check my feet to make sure they weren't swollen & thank God they weren't because I probably would have been charged for a 3rd visit.

The only reason why America is considered "wealthy" is not because the people are, it's because the 1% decided to live here, if the one percent didn't live in America, we would be as wealthy as a Romania or Albania.

  • @joshuahall1581

The reason why our government and media is a corporatocracy, is primarily because of the 1% acting as donors to political institutions such as Political Action Committees which confirm or deny a candidates worthiness according to what they're agenda is and how much it benefits the wealthy. If the agenda is pro-corporate, pro-1%, anti-regulatory, and pro-capitalist you have a larger chance at winning an election than the pro-proletariat, pro-worker union/worker's rights, pro-justice, pro-socialist/communist, pro-law, pro-reform, pro-universal medicare, pro-egalitarianism simply because the donor class occupies over 60-70% of total US revenues inside of the United States. In other words, corporations control our democracy because they have the most money to give to PAC's and independent politicians and controls those politicians agendas so politicians can receive monetary benefit. In simplest terms, politicians are corporate bureaucrats that treat their position like a finance job and make decisions on the behalf of what is good for the owner of this business (That politician's donor).

My mother passed last year. Before she did, she spent at least a month in a hospital. Nobody asked diddly about payment or insurance, because neither is needed in a universal health care nation. After she passed, she left her property and what funds she had to the family. What didn't she leave? Crippling debt. Because our health care system is not an ugly way for the rich to siphon money away from the citizens. Americans are such suckers, and get so comprehensively taken advantage of in basically any walk of life, it's staggering that basically nobody says shit. Try this crap on the French and they'd light the entire nation on fire, just trying to raise retirement age there led to persistent wide scale unrest. They're still mad, months later.
