Healing spaces - the science of place and well-being: Esther Sternberg at TEDxTucson 2013

Can stress make you sick? Can belief help healing? Do the place and space around you affect your emotions and health? Dr. Sternberg will answer these questions and will address how the science of the mind-body connection explains these phenomena.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

How can the future of medicine be human centered, with emphasis on place and wellbeing, without rectifying inequities and violence that cause so much sickness? What is being done to hold those in power accountable, and are they willing to relinquish power and influence for the sake of the wellbeing of all? For example: a toxic factory that generates a ton of ROI for investors won't be shut down in order to benefit the place and people affected by it. Or take housing policy for example: many people are stressed sick because of lack of housing that they can afford in accessible areas. But people with wealth are often so NIMBY and uphold redlining from decades ago I'm learning a lot from the video content AND I also believe there are greater root issues to address if we are to help people heal in an integrated way.

I would much rather die than go to a hospital where the window on the ward is two beds away from you (and you cannot see anything but other neighbourhood buildings anyway) or even if you have a room all to yourself with a window-view but you are not allowed to open it and to let some fresh air in. This all in the name of 21st century modern medical care. ...like sentenced to prison....

I haven't finished the video so it may be touched on but Peter Mac cancer hospital here im Melbourne Australia did a redesign. It's so green on the rooftop there's grass and sunlight and trees. It's open there's nice natural light and there are birds. We have come in so stressed and sure it was the end and left so calm. Not if only they could do this to the car park 😅.
