Heal Your Wounds, Heal Your Marriage (And Grab Some Tissues)

Get ready, guys, and maybe get a box of Kleenex for this episode! We’re talking with one of the most profound men I have ever met, Dr. Bob Schuchts. After spending more than 30 years as a therapist, Dr. Bob founded the John Paul II Center for Healing, where his team leads a number of healing retreats for individuals and couples who want to encounter the healing love of Jesus Christ.
We go through the actual marriage vows said in the Catholic sacrament of matrimony and talk about what they mean, and Dr. Bob reflects on his own marriage with his wife Margie, who died six years ago.
Think this episode is only for married people? Think again! You may have heard me say before that sometimes you think in life without thinking about WHAT you’re thinking. Follow me? Dr. Bob also talks about how we identify the “false vows” we have been living out of (whether consciously or unconsciously) and how to renounce those vows and take every thought captive for Christ!
This is such a beautiful conversation and I am so excited for you guys to see it. Share it with your friends and family who are single, engaged, newly married, or who have been married 50+ years! It’s THAT good! ❤️‍🔥

God placed this video on my feed at the precise moment in time. I am going through the darkest times in my marriage right now also due to my husband recently confessing to me the same thing Dr. Bob felt. It has completely crushed me. Please I ask for your prayers for my marriage so that the Holy Spirit can help my husband see where his fears are and the false vows he has lived out of. That The Lord brings him back home to his wife and two little ones.

This is great! I am a widow of almost 18 years following a very troubled relationship with my husband for almost 40 years. All young married folks, please cherish and embrace this advice. Try to not point finger at your spouse but instead focus on your own personal anti-marriage vows. God Bless you!

I have both of the false vows Dr. Schuchts mentioned in the video. I've said them for years. Time to get to work on renouncing them.... After a difficult time a few years ago, my wife and I started saying our vows to each other every day when we wake up and before getting out of bed. It has been a wonderful way to start each day.

wow - this just brought me confirmation for what the Holy Spirit made me realize today. That the pain that is coming up from hearing some news is because it is another part of me that Jesus wants to heal. I'm turning the corner today and seeing it as a healing opportunity. God is so good!

"You enter marriage and think that your wife is your healing balm, but she's the diagnosing finger of God, to push on every break and find our where you are broken". - Thank you Chris. She keeps me on the narrow path, to my betterment, and she deserves my eternal love. I will remember these words when she gently corrects me and my pride wants to fight what I know deep down is right. Another line from you helps me....."Just do the next right thing". Thanks again for all you and your wife do for us!

I almost wouldn’t watch this because I tht it was going to be a classic judgementally type of message for Catholic ppl. But it’s the open wounds of marriage and vulnerability we need to get to in order to heal and live whole married lives. Thank you for your open heart.

I know that’s a “brand” but I honestly don’t encounter that more among Catholics than anywhere else..perhaps less! Thx for watching!

It's such an important book! When I read it I immediately started giving copies to my priest friends and others close to me. I go back to it again and again because there's always more to digest. I went to a monastery for a weekend with it to really enter in.

To have and to hold = 1 Corinthians 7.5 "do not defraud.." Marriage is a natural/legal construct. The meaning of the vows are in Church LAW.

I am interested in this in hindsight. I married out of the church at 16. I was pregnant and the man I married was 21. Then I was married, out of the church, and had more children. 1 died and my husband was an alcoholic. Then my youngest son was electrocuted and had a near death experience. There was a lawsuit and my son got money. After healing a lot, I met my soul mate. I got a prenuptial to protect my sons finances. I felt it was my duty. My husband who I married in a church was unhappy about it and I don't think he ever got over it but I did not see the problem. Now that I have heard this, I have doubts. My husband recently died and I feel he and I are tied to each other eternally. Woe if it isnt so. He did have some issues with money also, but I love him and accepted his struggle. By the way I do not protect myself from what people think , but I am saying all if this to suggest that some circumstances requires some things that other circumstances don't. I am curious about your interpretation but even if that is not possible I want to say that not everything is black and white. There are situations. Thanks...I think I said too much....😅

If marriage is love, then no one can consent and everyone can get an annulment because love has no legal definition.
