So Peter Hurley basically kills all shadows in the face making it flat. Why is that a good thing?

Peter Hurley and Sue Bryce have made their careers with flat light. Some feel it is more flattering. Very much in fashion these days. ( so much so, I sent it a headshot to one company and corporate retouched to death to make it look like flat light.)

If his technique just kills all shadows, ask yourself why are his lights aimed? Re-watch @17:00 It's not about killing shadows, it's about allowing the person's features to be shown. He's not lighting their face or head completely evenly. He still uses a key light.
