    These presets are being run without any real modifications. They can be contained, controlled and sweetened to tastes and the order of the signal path managed much better. This gentleman is a great guitarist and he could make this device really fly with some custom adjustments. I use the MX-5 with a Lyra-8 so have had to devote a lot of time to modifying. It’s a brilliant device for the money, in terms of creative sound exploration.

    I’ve owned the Line 6 POD X3, POD HD500X, POD Go, Helix LT, and Helix Floor, and I love my MX5 the most, and that’s purely based on sound. The MX5 is fantastic, and I don’t see a need for IR’s. I have no problem sitting in a mix alongside my other guitarist running Mesa tube amps into a Torpedo Capture. Plus, it’s not a downgraded version of the flagship like Line 6 continually pushes out. PLUS, there’s tails going from preset to preset. And even though there’s less effects, I feel that the quality of each effect is greater than individual effects in the Helix family. Just my two cents. They were a steal $400 US, but even at $500 it’s a great deal.

    How different does it sound running in the front of a clean valve amp compared to the line out through monitors? I always wonder if all the wizardry in these modern day pedal boards can really be appreciated plugged into standard mono guitar amp? I think, now tell me if i am wrong, that nowadays you'd just run into a house P.A or a set of stereo powered monitors not a stack?

    Cool, but is it blind accessible? I am 50 years old, I have been playing guitar for 40 years, and I have been blind for30. Touch screens and scrolling through menus suck. Music instrument companies do not consider blind accessibility. Even the big companies, like offender, don’t consider this. I purchased a fender digital modelling amplifier, because its companion iPhone app was accessible for me. Once they updated the app or the amplifier, it is no longer as functional, and it is not a priority for them. I want my money back.

    Here's my take on the MX-5. Don't bother trying to dial in a good tone without Custom IRs. Even then the Helix and PODGo products are way better in the amp tones before it hits the Custom IRs. The only way to get a good tone out of the MX-5 is to use a great Custom IR because the amp tone is not that good. Also, the amp selection is a handful of amps with some slight variations. You get what you pay for and the MX-5 is cheap. Mine got returned and I had high hopes for it since it was based on the Eleven Rack product line.

  • @ryant3600

    @ryant3600

    I don't agree. Yes having some Ir's is always nice no matter what product you choose to use. Headrush is just a lot easier to learn how to use and tweak. the cabs I do wish they came w/ a few more options but you can also download more as well. However, once you learn what cab sounds best with your rig and how to tweak it, there are some that sounds amazing.. most of my rigs don't have IR's in it the signal chain. Just a cab.

    Amp and cab sounds are just different EQ curves, use the built in parametric that serves as a global parametric. The amps, when dialed in are so much fuller and more natural to my ears.
