Head Tracking Setup A-Z for RC Hobbies
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Plenty of show-off videos on Head Tracking but none brings a newbie like me through from A-Z of setting it up.
Finally I figured it out and here's a full documentation of it. Hope it will help you in some ways.
If you are not using Crossfire, and want to pipe the Head Tracker data into the headphone jack of your RC, you will have to adapt the concept to your setup.
I will try to do one set up based on the headphone jack if I have time.

excellent vid ! thanks
OMG thank you! This took all the frustration out of making head tracking work with my crossfire module.

Mejores videos explicando lo necesario. muchas gracias
Cheers...very informative
thanks Bud
Ok, because, it's unfaire, you probably didn't received enought, in comparaison about the help : SO THANK YOU !!! A LOT
This video is going to help me set up my fpv on my tank a whole lot. Thank you for this step by step tutorial. I'm going to need it in the future.
Very good info. Must have cost you many hours of work. Thank you.

Thanks! Hence it's important to share it ;-)
You should make a video on how to get 12 channels out of a nano receiver. That would get lots of views over and over👍🙏

Hi James, are you referring to the setting on the Crossfire to switch from 8 channels to 12? Followed by mapping on the radio controller of the channels to the switches or dials?

hi i can make it on radiolink rc8x ? please
Hi Great video. I am just a little lost. I did see a manual on line but nothing specific to my questions. -My Arkbird RX came without an antenna. Do you know what antenna type it uses. Is it 2.4G, 5.8G, or 433G? -Which port on the RX do I plug in the 3.5 stereo jack. Is it plugged into the "I" port or "O"? -All my Models have the Trainer Port already set on MASTER. Do I actually still need to make a Trainer Model on my radio to activate the head tracker? -Lastly, do I need to power this RX separately or will my Taranis X9D power it through the Trainer Port Jack? Thank you in advance

I am not quite sure if I get your question. If it is about the receiver of the HT, it plugs into your radio transmitter. It receives signals from the HT Transmitter which is mounted onto your goggles. There is no antenna needed because of the short distance between your goggles and the radio transmitter. The 3.5 stereo jack plugs into your radio IF and only IF your radio has a socket. Some radios don't have such. Hope the information is what you are asking for.

In other words, the HT receiver receives the HT signals, channels it into your radio transmitter (radio control), then gets sent to the radio receiver on your FPV craft. The HT receiver is not for mounting on the FPV craft itself. Thus no antenna required.

@@nutsidea Thank you for the quick reply. Great! got the antenna part on the AHT RX. I did not want to be powering things up without an antenna. My Taranis X9D (original) does have a trainer port. I'm just not sure if the jack is stereo or mono on my radio. Will it work either way? Also, do I plug the other end of this cable to the "I" or "O" port of the AHT RX? I am going about this ever so slowly as information is slow to come by. Thanks in advance
what radio controller/transmitter do you recommend(preferable cheap)?

Very tough question for me to answer. I can only share my logic here: 1) must be very reliable 2) must have long range 3) must have features like GPS locate (in case if you lost the craft, it can direct you to the craft if you re-establish connection) 4) if head tracker is needed, you need i) an external module that allows the head tracker to plug into it (like what I showed in my video), or ii) a socket on the RC to plug in the head tracker So personally I use TBS Blacksheep Crossfire (probably the most established brand out there with lots of people using it both for quads and for wings.) These days there are many other alternatives but I didn't check them out. So to help you find a suitable RC, perhaps you can share: i) do you intend to use it for wings, quad or both ii) do you need head tracker? iii) what is considered cheap for you? Someone else with better knowledge pls chip in to help.
Can this system work for something without a flight controller such as a regular crossfire system with adapters?

I believe you can feed the signals from the head tracker into RC with a RCA cable. At the receiving end you need a RC Receiver module with a channel that you can use to drive the servo. You will need to configure your RC in order to drive the servo correctly. However I personally have not done that before. So I can't provide you with exact details on how to do it.

@@nutsidea I have a iX20SE with a working a proven working crossfire module and adapter that it requires. I tested the FSV160 on a DX18 without crossfire and we got it showing servo movement when accelerometer moves.
Hello, will this setup work with ExpressELRS and/or Betaflight compatible?
@nutsidea
Жыл бұрын
It is Betaflight compatible. But I am not sure about Express ELRS. Theoretically it should because it is essentially just sending the signal over through a channel and driving a servo that's all.

Will this work with any radio? I have Spektrum ix12
@nutsidea

If you are referring to whether Crossfire module can be mounted on Spectrum ix12, the information on this link indicates so. www.spektrumrc.com/product/ix12-12-channel-dsmx-transmitter-only/SPMR12000.html The setup process for the head tracker would be identical as shown in the video.

@@nutsidea I already got that. It's all hooked up ready to go. I just need more than eight channels out of a crossfire for my fpv glider that I'm building as we speak. 12 channels are better than 8

Someone needs to just a make a kit with everything there just mount the camera and put on the goggles

😁 Someone did better, they built the whole thing including the drone. DJI. Yea. How I wished they sold the gimbal, the camera and transmitter plus the goggle as a package so that it can be mounted on RC planes.
IF I GOT HDZERO GOGGLE do i need headtraker transmitter? i use tbs mambo and i got TBS Crossfire Micro TX V2 transmitter on my goggle?
@nutsidea
Жыл бұрын
Hi, I am not absolutely certain, but from the specs, the goggles doesn't have orientation tracking feature built in. So if you want head tracking feature on your cam mounted on your FPV craft, you will need this or equivalent tracker system. The Mambo needs a feed of tracking data to stream to the receiver on the FPV craft.

Found what you need here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2R7mZmKnLbQnLQ.html indeed it is a cable you need to buy to connect your goggles to your RC. Sorry but i accidentally deleted your most recent comment.
Looks like the juice is not worth the squeeze……
