That high visibility safety jacket gives him quite the power trip.

Had an awesome teacher that allowed me to use headphones while doing my English work. I wasn’t originally allowed to wear them as the school banned them but she came up to me half way through the lesson and saw I had completed the whole 2 periods worth of work in 30 minutes (2 periods usually go for an hour and 40mins). She asked what had changed and I told her the music let me concentrate and helped stimulate my brain a bit more. So for the rest of the year I could keep listening to music, was my best subject for that year I’m pretty sure. Music is an awesome tool especially if your students may have ADD and Dyslexia.

This is one of the things that always fucked me off about school, teachers having vendettas against totally irrelevant shit. Like seriously, what is the problem if a student wants to walk around listening to music? For all you know they might be anxious and not want to talk to people, or they love music and are considering it as a career? They seem to be always against anything that could promote any sort of individuality. Our school once banned spiky hair... like seriously.

It's like, the people who do well in school are the most least independent people on the planet because they have everything given to them. Here's the valedictorian, let's celebrate their success because they are going to be better off in life than you. It makes me so sick. Education shouldn't have to be competitive

I think the issue is a lot of kids keep them in in class and not just when walking around the school, so don't pay attention or are distracted by it. I think its different if its a lesson where you're just getting on with your own thing. I had an art teacher that would put the radio on and let people listen to music, but thats because he didn't have to do much teaching.

Spiky hair: fair enough, that's ridiculous. Earphones: I fully get why they distract kids from going to their next lesson and puts them in the wrong frame of mind. The "what if they're anxious" excuse was weak, you keep your head down and get to your next class. Listening to music isn't an expression of individuality either.

I have Aspergers Syndrome and wore headphones at break to help with my anxiety surrounding school especially in my final year - the familiar melody and beat was really calming to me. I switched to true wireless buds (a £20 pair from Amazon) after teachers were giving me grief about the wires sticking out of my jumper. I get it, it looks messy, but I would take them out of my uniform in class so I never truly understood why they got so pissed with me about it if it was only at lunch and break (collectively an hour a day).

the school should just get the IT technician to hack in all their phones and play Never Gonna Give You Up at full volume

If the school is doing a good job at educating their students then it means it's properly funded already. It's the schools that are struggling that need the money the most. That's literally a win more system that makes underperforming schools fail even more every year.

I know that for some students headphones make them obnoxious and extremely unsociable etc but I need to listen to music throughout the day to help my anxiety, depression and PTSD because they are much more distracting to my learning and everyday life that music going through one ear most of the time. I am so glad to be in college now where I can do this and in some of my lessons while doing quiet work

It depends on the school or the teacher because some will let you use them in school, some restrict the use for example brakes only and others will forbidden the use of them anywhere and anytime in the school

I would listen to the teachers at the start of the lesson and then when we would go on with our work I would put my headphones in because it's actually the complete opposite of what this teacher is saying, they helped me concentrate on doing my work and when I didn't have headphones I was a pain in the ass. Fair enough some students it does cause a distraction but definitely not everyone.
