HEAD Prestige Classic 600/ PT10 Pro Stock Racquet Review - Testing Robin Haase's old racquets

Спорт

I managed to find a couple of HEAD PT 10 Pro stocks that I am pretty sure belonged to Robin Haase and I took them out for a play-test. There is a reason this racquet (the Prestige Classic 600) is a legend in the game!

    Been using the Prestige 600 in its many names (Prestige 600, Classic, Trysis, iPrestige) because I was a huge Thomas Muster fan. Then Goran Ivanisevic and Marat Safin...I guess whoever used a Prestige! I stopped buying them after the Prestige Mid Youtek (same color scheme as the predominantly red one in the video) since I stopped playing tennis then. I still have a bunch of my old Prestige (even the unloved silver and green one) and I strung some up this summer to play with my wife and son both of whom are really getting into tennis now. Definitely feels great and solid (I'm a flat hitter with a one handed backhand) but my son's Babolat Pure Strike and my wife's Yonex EZONE 100 (2022) were so much easier to play with. Especially since my footwork had gone down the drain. With a ball machine, I was killing the ball. But hitting with an actual person that moves me around...ugh... If I get my footwork back, I think the mid size Prestige can still be effective. The sheer plow through of the racquet when you strike the ball is brutal, and it feels so great on serves, especially that sound that it makes. EZONE 100 is tempting though...might try out the EZONE 98...or may be a Prestige Protour (95 inch?) The new Head naming scheme confuses me...why can't they just stick with 600 and 630.

    Is the PT10 the 2001-2003 i.prestige mid? I’m new to figuring this out Jonas but you’re so awesome and helpful! I have now 7 i.prestige rackets as I prepare to play more ITF Futures starting next week. I’m stringing them at 23/22 main/crosses with full bed of Luxilon Alu Power 16L. I hit hard and flat and back in 1985 as an elite protege of Nick Bolletieri’s, I had beaten Andre and others while using the Adidas GTX Pro (Lendl racket) and now after 38 years I’ve returned to the game full on. I plan on being ranked in the ATP by 60 years (young) and this racket has saved me from tennis elbow which I got from trying last year for 6 months a Babolat Pure Drive. Playing with a small head is divine. I wonder if the rackets I’m using are PT10’s. Are they? Thanks!

    I’m fully committed to my 2001 Head i.prestige mids and I’m guessing they’re as close as possible to the PT 10. My set up is 347 grams strung, 32.3 cm balance, and SW 326. Strung with Alu Power 23/22. NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO THESE RACKETS FOR CONTROL AND PRECISION. Just love them!!! Tak tak Jonas (I watch this video over and over)

    I used the original Prestige Classic 600 about 25 years ago. Definitely a great 👍 frame but the 354 SW on the pro stock version is too much racquet for me today at 53. It must be really solid!

    Hello my friend this rackets as you just said they are top notch quality and design wise both.I'm using right now the Ultra Pro 97 since I saw your reviews and you always put it up there.I'm in love with this rackets I used to used the Wilson Burn 100 S but now I'm older and using the same type of racket I used when I was in my twenties like PT 280 or PT 630 for whatever reason I found the Ultra Pro 97 very similar to the Head 🗣️ I just mentioned.your Channel is dope I really like it.I'm a fellow tennis nerd myself too.Be well Nikko From Argentina.I wanna see it happen again Delpo and Roger inside a tennis court.

    @@TennisnerdJonas. How different is the 2001 i.prestige mid from the pt10? Is it just the intellifibers on the neck of the i.prestige? My I.prestige mids are 345 strung and I’m wondering what difference are they from a PT10. Thanks again. Come to crete. Mi casa es su casa. You’re invited in our home when you wanna come!

    Safin and Ivanisevic are both pretty tall. I'm inclined to think that these old school frames with small heads and dense string patterns suit the big men perfectly because they can hit down/flat on the ball more often than someone who is shorter or plays with a pronounced low to high swing. Could be wrong though.

  • @andromeda8425

    @andromeda8425

    That's a rational thinking for sure, you can also add a tall guy Philipoussis to that list, who also used PT10. But back in the day 25 of 100 top players were using PT10, be it Prestige Classic, it's older cosmetics versions or Prestige tour. I can not hit a flat ball to save my life, but with PT10 there is no problem generating spin and using all the angles you can imagine. Trust me, launch angle is really nothing to complain about, actually I don't think I needed any adjustment period from 16x19. Gonna try Pro line Rough strings next after really liking Pro Line II, but it seems that PT10 is not really string sensitive.

    HI Jonas,Been using this Head Prestige Tour for many years and definitely is the GOAT of tennis rackets. With the demanding ways tennis has evolved,is there a tennis racket that has the same feel and control of the Prestige Tour 600,but with a bigger head/sweetspot.I like heavy rackets so weight not an issue,,,,the feel is the issue.Secondly with such a racket, what ,in your mind do you feel is the best string and tension to get the max out of the racket

    Ok this is the info I was looking for. Im playing my vintage Prestige Classic 600 since 2000.(it was already few years old). I was looking for a modern replacement but nothing was even close! Now I know is Pt10 is the one or PT57A... Recently I bought Gravity 360 Pro & in specs is quite heavy... But in hand it feels like stick for kids. Impossible to play! So light. Is it about swing weight.?

    Any lead tape will work. It can generally be found in either 1/2" or 1/4" widths. 1/4" wide is easier to work with if you want to add weight in the hoop as you can fit a strip either side of the strings or under the bumpers without problem. The 1/2" wide if fine if you want to add weight at the top of the grip etc.

    Looks like a great frame. It's so good that you can get 10+ year old sticks that are completely useable. Regarding your grip size 4 concern, I recently got an MFil 200+ that was Grp4 and also too big for me, so I took off the grip and am using just a Wilson Pro Soft overgrip. That overgrip has a suede-like soft finish, which when applied on a bare handle actually feels ok. The size now feels pretty similar to grip size 3. You also lose about 8g of weight compared to a normal grip.

  • @TimJones97701

    Very interesting video thank you. Obviously the smaller head size makes it more difficult to use properly in today's tennis game. However, the head size alone isn't all that demanding. The size, plus that hefty swing weight makes it difficult. I wonder how it plays if you removed the lead take under the guard and make it perhaps 6-7 pts HL? As for Robin Hasse he has had a good career, but seems like a bit of an under achiever. I'm not sure why, but I feel like he could have been around #30 for a better part of his career, rather than his peak. Perhaps his game wasn't consistent enough to maintain that level and move higher. Cheers 🎾🎾🎾

    I find retail version of PT10 not really difficult to swing at 347/348 g total. Not even close to PT 2.0. I have one at 4 HL (33.0 cm) and other at about 6 pt HL (32.3). They play different obviously, but at 6-7 pt HL it lacks a bit of finishing power. This stick is really meant to be hefty, and small head size makes sure you can keep it manoeuvrable even at a high weight!
