Chuck Connors' life and career was a commentary on what was wonderful and beautiful about America back then. You can just taste the freedom that Americans were enjoying at that time. I'm from the Philippines, and when I was watching The Rifleman as a young boy back in the 60s, I just can't help but admire the image of a morally upright man who pursues justice for those who have been wronged. I guess the values being projected thru the show sort of helped influence many young people like me back then to "fight and stand up for what is right". And other shows like Daniel Boone and Bonanza, were also good to watch for their redeeming values and for "inspiring" boys like myself to aspire to grow up on the right track. Thank you for sharing this informative video on one of the shows and it's star that we frequently watched on TV.

The Rifleman was one of my favorite shows, & each episode always represented a great message & lesson for any young kid, & any adult that watched. Johnny Crawford (Mark McCain) was also outstanding in every episode as well - the show was always very realistic. The two of them had a great chemistry - it all seemed so genuine. RIP to both of them.

I think the year was 1963. I was 10 & a big baseball fan. Dad took me to an L.A. Angel V NY Yankee baseball game in L.A. There was an old-timers game before the main game with retired players that'd put on a show first. One of the retired "old timer" players was Chuck Connors. Being that The Rifleman was my favorite TV show, I kept my eye on Chuck Connors during the entire game. He appeared to me to be the best player on the field, by far. He really was still a highly skilled baseball player while he was starring in The Rifleman. I still have images of him playing baseball better than the other retired ball players - today - SIXTY YEARS LATER.

It's a shame that Chuck (Kevin) didn't stay married to his first wife and mother of 4, but it is understandable. What I love about The Rifleman series is how it portrays scenes that would never be allowed now. I mean, seriously, who's dad gets into fistfights in a bar, and breaks stuff, and then rides back home with his kid? I find scenes like that hilarious in view of today's censors. That said, the Rifleman series was a really great Western TV series that was well produced and brilliantly edited. Connors owned the screen on that show and it's totally stood the test of time.

I met Johnny Crawford in 2016 at a several day western show in Utah. He was very friendly as we talked a bit about the show. This was before he suffered from major symptoms from Alzheimers, however there were a couple of times he struggled to remember someone's name. The one thing that I'll always remember is how small his hands were. My hands are of a normal size, but his got lost in my hand as we shook hands. I can't imagine him playing a sheriff. Bad casting. Still, meeting him was a blessing. I had missed out on meeting Clint Walker from the year before at the same show.

At 66, I still remember The Rifleman & Dark Shadows coming on at 4:00 PM, M-F. (Channel 5 & 7). My older sister, loved Dark Shadows and Me The Rifleman. We would have some pretty good fights, who got to watch what, back then. I usually won, but I did lose from time to time. Now, I simply put The Rifleman on automatic record from ME TV and still watch it all the time. Sadly, my sister is gone. Yet, the memory lives on!

I'm a hundred and seven, and I loved this video. I never once got to meet Brezhnev, but it is gratifying to know the communist leader could appreciate a right wing actor and be friends with him and invite him to Moscow. It goes to show you that if you have a good TV show that's about a rifleman, the communists might like you and invite to Moscow. Maybe this friendship helped the thaw in U.S. -CCCP relations under the administrartion of Connors' friend Ronald Reagan.

Saw Chuck and Mark horse back at the Rose Parade around 1968 or so when I was a kid. Mark was roping people as he rode by. I so wanted to be roped but wasn't. Great times and a great western with moral values unlike today's movies. Every day in the late afternoons my grandmother would holler at my grandpa - "hey paw the rifleman is on". That was one of his favorites. Memories.
