He was the ONLY Poirot APPROVED by Christie

Did you know who was the only Poirot actor approved by Christie? The 'young', the 'charming', or, perhaps, she preferred the one you do?

@@kugelweg I mean his moustache is described as "His moustache was very stiff and military" by Hastings. Sounds perfectly fine to me and every single adaptation of his (like cartoon and such) have that classic small moustache. I haven't seen much to indicate his moustache is anywhere near to different as what we see with Suchet, but one can use their own imagination for it. Now for the hair yes many times one can assume in the books we wears a wig constantly but many actors do seem to make him balding. But again that as with the lack of green eyes seems to be no problem here. Is a minor difference which hasn't affected his image imo (just like Daniel Ratcliffe not having the rat nest of hair constantly and not having green contact lenses didn't make him less suitable for Harry Potter) Suchet didn't imply intelligence affects his vocal chords. He said that by the character of Poirot as mentioned in the books he wanted to make it perfectly clear he is a "head-driven man". His natural voice is baritone. He could have used that. Instead he chose to interpret the character as he did. Besides his voice was described as "hesitant" more often what not. So he spoke in a less authoritative way (far from what I would call "rich" in many occasions) Suchet most of the time sits back and relaxes and he has crossed his legs during a performance. He sits upright in the presence of others to show Poirot's incredibly dandee-like nature. He himself read the books after all. As for the crushes he had in those episodes you mention, most of the time people just treat them as youth crush and flattery response rather than actual love. It was clear to many people Poirot was not really interested in love. But he was still human not a machine. I dunno about whether he "decided he didn't have sense of humor" but I suspect he was driven behind the essence of making Poirot the "foreigner" or the "outcast" of his british company just like he said when reading the books he had the impression Poirot was still considered a "foreigner" amongst everyone and he wanted to show his "social awkwardness with them" so to speak. Instead of laughing he made Poirot smirk and smile a lot during the comedic moments. If that was just it, just a trick to sell the show, then people would react to it the same way they react with the terrible Disney remakes. It didn't happen. By an large the people who watched the show loved it and people who read the books praised it. So allow me to disagree. Your opinion is valid of course and I understand people getting upset when a story is trasfered to a TV adaptation because either their image of the hero in their heads is not satisfied or because the tv show or movie deliberately makes changes to the interpretation but allow me to disagree in your opinion. I still believe Suchet is THE Poirot based on the media and the descriptions the same much as the mannerisms and the appearance of Jeremy Brett was THE Sherlock Holmes for me
I'm almost embarrassed to say, but I have watched each episode many times. Suchet and the producers did a fine job.

Dame Agatha never lived long enough to see David Suchet portray Poirot. If she had, undoubtedly, she would have thought he would be her very own imagination come to life.He is the Poirot one imagines in one’s head, when one first reads Agatha Christie books, and for me, that was when I was 11. David Suchet was like a mirage come to life for me, and I’m sure he does for many others.

Well, by like middle of the movie I couldn't wait to leave the movie theater and was fuming for days at it. In my mind it was awful, especially bc i hated him as Poirot. But thats because I grew up on Davids version, so I will forever be biased. However, even David's version was only alright. The book is still the best.

David is a real method actor. Not to the extreme unhealthy degree, but to the degree that he simply melts into whatever character he is playing. It’s wonderful to watch. @@kugelweg David Suchet read all her books before playing the part. He even argued with the director in season 1 and told him that he would refuse to play Poirot anymore unless they allowed him to play him as Christie described him in the books (the director told him that dusting off chairs when he was about to sit was stupid and David responded that "if that's what Christie wrote in her books about Poirot, that's what I'll do") He methodically read all the books and made a list of some primary characteristics of his behavior. He has the height more or less and he has the apropriate head shape. The only thing missing from his appearance is the wig and the green eyes but that hardly damages the brilliance of his acting. I hardly call what he did "poor performance". Of course you can say he is not your favorite actor to play him or that he is not how you imagined him to look like when you read the books and that of course is perfectly valid but what he does is definitely not "poor performance" objectively speaking.

Suchet is definitely my no. 1. It is important to remember that he was very fortunate to work with a brilliant supporting cast. Kenneth Brannagh makes a very good fist of it as well.
A lot of these characters did play hercule after she died. But I’m pretty certain Sutchet would be her favourite. Apparently also for the estate of christe. Which has as many rules as Herge ( tin tin ) estate. The black tin tin is a psychology theory about herge’s child abuse. Which has never been confirmed. But he thinks there is a lot of hints to suggest it reading his book.

I’ve read all of the Poirot books and seen all of these actors in the role, and the only one that really nailed it is David Souchet. It’s hard to even imagine any of the other actors when reading the books, and Kenneth Branagh really blew it when he had his little fisticuffs scene in Murder in the Orient Express. He also screwed up the plot severely in death on the Nile when he had all the different characters as wedding guests on a privately booked Karnak. It made the plot even more implausible than the remarkable series of coincidences in the original novel.
My favorite! Love them all though!❤ Mysteries are the best!🧙
But obviously!!! No one else understands Poirot to the extent of becoming the man! Love Suchet ❤❤
