    Charger pursuit owner here, the secure park is misleading here. Turning the car off and on again will disable it. It's meant to lock it out while the car is idling. I tried and failed to get it to stay on during startup. Also, the button is behind the steering wheel on both sides where the radio controls are. What these cars do have over civ cars is the lack of a neutral safety switch. So no rolling it with no key. Tldr, get a kill switch. On everything.

    Even better if you have no automatic locks to begin with, you can have a battery disconnect. It disables traditional hotwiring approaches and leaves the OBD port unpowered. Pair that with a low jack on a battery backup and some RC functions like a sound amp to talk your theif out of it from a distance

  • @wonton3533

    @wonton3533

    4 ай бұрын

    @FletcherHillier That sounds like a great idea! But probably beyond my skills. I just have it on the red wire on the key detection system, so even with a registered key, it won't start. This was the solution I could figure out that allowed me to keep keyless entry. Although, where I put it is definitely a secret.

  • @DarkAttack14

    @DarkAttack14

    4 ай бұрын

    Kill switch is iffy if you're in an inspection state. It means you gotta leave the battery powered up for a week or two to get monitors set before you go for your inspection. One workable idea would be an isolator on the starter power wire. Then even with the right key or a new programmed key it will not crank at all. Avoids the issues with constantly resetting your ecu. You also waste fuel when you shut off your battery with a kill switch every time you park up while the ecu relearns idle and all that fun stuff. I guess you could somehow work out a kill switch inline with the ignition or something

  • @wonton3533

    @wonton3533

    4 ай бұрын

    @@DarkAttack14 That would be a problem if I was killing the ECU, but the only circuit I kill is the ignition system. I went through the wiring diagram and only killed that one system. It throws a *service keyless system* light, but that's it. Once the switch is flipped, it all goes away.

    Secure park is only for when the vehicle is running and you leave with the keys with you… what are you on about? Whoever “tried” to steal your car didn’t know what they were doing. These cars are extremely easy to take doesn’t matter what package it is. After they do all that plugging in and “programming” you were talking about they’ll then have a new key and yours will no longer work. Your secure park ain’t gonna do shit. Put it in a garage you got lucky this time.

  • @wonton3533

    @wonton3533

    I completely agree. I have a charger pursuit myself, and the secure park here is misleading. The only way I found to combat theft is a physical ignition or starter kill switch. The only thing this car has over other chargers is a lack of neutral safety switch to roll the car away, but obviously, that wasn't gonna help out this dumbass thief. He definitely got lucky here.

Too bad they probably have trackers and billions of idle hours that basically irreversibly wrecks the engine by the time the public can buy them at auction... what a true shame...

  • @joemvin.j3-16

    Not true! You will have to look at auctions, used car lots, etc. I have a 2016 Police Pursuit, 5.7 Hemi, RWD. I bought it 2022 Nov 29 - about 1,200 idle hours which is very little (I've seen 7,000 to 13,000!), and 93,000 miles. CarFax has history as Arkansas State Trooper car, with history - including chasing a perp off-road! = hit RR quarter, and I checked it throughout: it was fixed perfectly AND placed back in service for AST use. Very happy with it. I will do F struts (maybe Bilstein), Mopar police strut kit, and full lower arms with polyurethane bushings & hardened ball joints. In future: ScatPac/ Hellcat/ aftermarket? water pump, timing chain set; TransGo or similar shift kit for the 5 speed Police transmission and aftermarket transmission dipstick set. I will also say - this car is waaaay better, quicker, faster, more fun to drive than the 2007 Crown Vic P71 Police I had for over 6 years. AND also more economical.

    @joemvin.j3-16

    PS the Chargers don't come with PIT bars or bull bars - the Police agency adds them, regardless of the make & model. Similar for the extreme police-only dark tint, lights, computer, perp wall and plastic back seat, etc ... ALL OF THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE REMOVED when the car is sent to auction - but not always. The car in the video still has PIT bar. I've seen a full cage (bolted or WELDED versions, yes welded!) as well as plastic rear seats still in the car. Mine still has full factory interior.

    The pursuit Tahoes have a button right underneath the parking brake that you hit with your foot.

    I have a Pursuit. The secure park is engaged and disengaged from a button in between both the volume buttons and channel change buttons on the back of the steering wheel. That’s why he got his camera so close to the odometer when he switched it off. No special sequence

    A kill switch is way more effective. Either make the switch cut power to the fuel pump or all power

    Its a "pedal button" like the oldschool high beam.

    Its very easy to make cars not easy to steal. Just have a code that driver needs to input before having the drive function unlocked. Only the owner and manufacturer knows the code. It cannot be reset unless the entire car is reprogramed. Or when car detects the wrong owner's face, I mean manufacturers already have all your data.

    The reason why they tried to steal it is cause when they were kids they wanted to become police when they grow up. This is the only closest way to become it.

    Why would Dodge not have that for the civilian Charger? Shows how they really don't care about security.

    You mean the button by your left foot on the floor to disengage them. Sure is a secret alright haha. Think I'm kidding, look it up. I used to work on these things back when the Crown Vic's were still being produced. That's why cop cars don't just have that but also GPS as well
