@@S0urAsALemon I don't know about now, but back in the late 90's, the store I worked in used a digital scale for training. You had to be able to scope exactly the desired scoop weight (want to say it was 1oz) 14 out of 15 times before you could work the line. If someone complained about being under-served, you'd do a quick retest on the order from a fresh start, and show the customer the weight vs their order. If they were polite about it, they'd often get the reorder free as well.

Just so y’all know ice cream scoops are designed to give people the illusion of removing more than they actually are. If you get 1 scoop you’re actually reviving a lot less and 2 scoops would be a normal amount you would want. 2 scoops only seem like “more” because the curve of the scooper makes a thin circle with the middle being entirely air so it stands taller. Ice cream places are rip offs.
@varungupta2610
12 күн бұрын
You might be right. But still one scoop will be smaller than two.
@randomcomment1667
12 күн бұрын
@@varungupta2610 yea that’s kind of the point. Which is why I said 2 scoops is the actual normal amount. You’re getting more but you’re still not getting your money’s worth since every scoop is technically half the actual portion. So 2 scoops is the equivalent of 1 and on scoop is really 1/2 of a scoop. Specifically if they use a curved ice cream scooper. If they use a scoop where you have to dig in then you’re getting the normal amount with each one.

@@randomcomment1667 Thats not the case. Two scoops isnt actually one. The scoops sizes are consistent. Ice cream scoopers just affect ice cream differently then spoons or other scoopers. If their menu is 1 scoop, then using their scoop is 1 scoop.
@randomcomment1667
9 күн бұрын
@@sirvantanite1307 you missed the entire point. It terms of scoops, yes one scoop is one scoop. Obviously. But in actual portion size 2 scoops would be the proper amount since 1 scoop is mainly air. Finally something I can speak with experience on! I worked in an ice cream shop for seven years and can say with certainty that there's two scoops in the cup. However he made the mistake of pushing it down into the cup. The proper way to scoop two scoops into a cup in a tourist location is to set one in the cup, and let the other scoop rest on top of the first and against the rim of the cup. It runs the risk of dripping out, but that's the customer's problem, not yours. It makes it look like they have a lot more than they actually have, especially since most ice cream places actually have the second scoop be smaller than the first. Also never buy special cones, absolute rip off even if they look really pretty. Just some melted chocolate and like .25 cents worth of sprinkles or something charged at a buck fifty.
@Haladmer
15 күн бұрын
Yeah, the place I worked did every scoop the same size/weight, but would "loose" scoop it so you'd have a larger "ball" to look like the scoops in magazines, but was mostly hollow. So it ended up as only like 1oz of product per scoop, from a 15lb box of ice cream.
@BlueCaesar13
14 күн бұрын
My only experience with this is that I eat a lot of ice cream. But they look the same. Like, even if the vanilla scoop was just looser, there's no way the chocolate has the equivalent of two of whatever amount the vanilla has.

@@BlueCaesar13 It's a perception thing. Like having a tall thin glass vs a short wide glass.. they hold the same amount of liquid, but our minds tend to pick one over the other, even when shown they're the same volume. The trick is when you work with density, if the single scoop is loosely packed, it can appear to take up as much space as the tightly packed double scoop (or vice versa). Mass-wise, the double scoop is, well.. double the single scoop. Volume-wise, they could visually appear the same.

@ladyAgnis

It's a cultural thing. Americans don't like to be rude to service workers(with a few exceptions) and the tip is because of how the wages are set. You can either choose a flat rate of minimum wage or a below minimum with varying tips(keeping all the tips) so the tips make the majority of a server's salary. That's why they say tipping is important for a server because that's how they make money(or how they choose to make money if you look at it differently). Makes sense if it's 10%-20% per customer, makes more than their minimum wage flat rate salary.

I had to go through this once. A customer compared the size of their scoops to someone elses and said they didn't get the same amount. I gave him the same amount but what happen was that the second scoop didn't sit ontop of the other one so I had to push it down a little bit to force it to stick together. Anyone who has worked in an ice cream shop knows when scooping ice cream, it rolls into a ball but there is empty air in the middle because of how the ice cream curls over itself when you are scooping it. So he got the same amount when I scooped but because I had to smoosh it down so that it didn't fall off, he tried to accuse me of not giving him the same amount.

The poor dude running the stand 😂 he was just trying to make buddy’s ice cream less messy and easier to carry with two scoops 😂
@Haladmer

@@meridianspark What's funny is having worked in one of the busiest tourist location ice cream shops in SF, we wouldn't have even blinked and just given another scoop to him, just to get rid of the guy. Shifts tend to be too busy to waste time dealing with customers like this character, and since tourist tips are based on a single interaction, not worth the hassle to argue. You can tell the writer(s) have never worked the serving line lol

I remember my ex used to do stuff like this & be insanely rude to waitress & staff. Whenever I told him to stop he would caused a whole scene where he just cussed me out in front of everyone & one time I went to the bathroom to get away from him yelling at me & a nice girl who worked at the restaurant asked me if I was okay or needed help.. eventually the relationship led to him physically ab*sing me.. but I wish I left sooner. A lot of people say being mean to the staff / waitress isn’t a big deal because maybe he’s just having a bad day, but now I see it as a major red flag & realized it only escalated from there.. I’m not saying if ur mean to staff that means ur gonna be an ab*ser I’m just saying it’s a red flag that I wish I paid attention to more

U think the customer was disrespectful?? So one shud take getting cheated lying down and not confront the seller??No. Just not done. Why has logic gonre out of the window? One just can't compress a solid or even a liquid like this, by pressing down, to decrease the volume by 50%. Milk ice cream isn't that fluffy to be that compressible.

I don't get it americans and their obsession to take waiters/waitress side. I mean the dude was not wrong at all but the bald guy still called him out. Also I heard u have to pay tip which like 10% of ur bill, WHY? Why paying the person when they are literally doing their job?
@ladyAgnis
8 күн бұрын
It's a cultural thing. Americans don't like to be rude to service workers(with a few exceptions) and the tip is because of how the wages are set. You can either choose a flat rate of minimum wage or a below minimum with varying tips(keeping all the tips) so the tips make the majority of a server's salary. That's why they say tipping is important for a server because that's how they make money(or how they choose to make money if you look at it differently). Makes sense if it's 10%-20% per customer, makes more than their minimum wage flat rate salary.

Use a scale, simple. I remember when i was in Bulgaria, you pick a scone, they put in on a scale that has a stand for scones. You just tell them more/less every time they put in a flavor.
Bro really loves his ice cream.
I'm kinda on the guys side. 1 how can there be twice the amount of ice cream in there? Unless there's as much air at the bottom of her container as there is ice cream then there's no way he pressed his down enough so they both look the same. And 2 let's say he was somehow able to do it, why? It wasn't falling off when he added another scoop so it's not like it wouldn't work if he didn't press it down, so all it did was make it look like he got less than he paid for.
@sws212
16 күн бұрын
Ice Cream is 30-50% air by volume. Pushing it down just removes the air and ice cream fills in any free space. It's really not that complicated, the ice cream dude was just a pushover and should've scooped in front of him.
