HE'S BACK! John Obi Mikel on Graham Potter sacking, Lampard and what's wrong with THIS Chelsea
Спорт
After another eventful week for Chelsea Football Club, former Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel returns (by popular demand!) to offer his thoughts on Graham Potter's demise, Frank Lampard's shock return to Stamford Bridge and why the Chelsea team that he played for was so different to the current group of players. John shares more insight into the methods of Carlo Ancelotti, the famous Chelsea 'cabal' that ran the dressing room, and a traumatic incident in his personal life that quickly brought football into perspective. Once again, the former Nigeria captain is in fine form!

John Obo Mikel, IS a Chelsea legend. Largely unappreciated player. He did all the donkey work in the team's engine.

Not really. He was a Benchwarmer for the longest time! I think he would have had a better career had he come to Utd!
When Mikel came in he filled the boots of Essien/Makelele in that DM position its like they never left. Kante is the only one since Mikel to do that job properly. Give this man his flowers now 💙

Ramirez seemed more like an attacking midfielder to me than a DM. Matic was a DM but was marginally less fluid. Slower reflex in comparison too.
John is a true Chelsea Legend. He is educating people on what a team like should have . He is showing vibe and ego.

This is not an honest response 😭 he's not telling it as it is. He was just a background player for Chelsea he wasn't really that important as say drogba for instance

@@Extreme2SwaggerHD You were not even in the system as a player or manager, but concluded about someone been just a player because the media told you so. Have Mikel on this show more often to talk about Football- he has presence
I am not a Chelsea fan so I am not biased but I have to admit this guy is class in this interview. He doesn't avoid any question and he doesn't dress up the truth. Honest and to the point. Great interview
My love for Mikel is top notch. Very underrated by Chelsea as a player but he did his work in silence. To play regularly for that Chelsea generation over the years and make over 300 appearances is legendary. He did his work in silence. I really respect his achievements. A true Chelsea legend.
Make him a regular, great talker, infectious smile, honest responses. Love him. An absolute legend on the field of play as well.
Somebody, please get Todd and all the Chelsea players around a big round table and play this to them. Or better still, let them invite Mikel to the locker room few times for a bountiful lecture like this. Legend.

I enjoyed this discussion
If you don't understand football, you might not wholesomely appreciate what he did for the team, especially, the Chelsea defense line that's behind him. Considering that he was a good, natural attacking midfielder. Always disciplined and gave Lampard the freedom to attack without the team getting exploited. Was always good at intercepting or disrupting opponents attack and rythm, allowing Terry and the backline the luxury of simply coming behind him just to do a mop up job, rather than bearing the full brunt of attack. No matter how well he played, l never hear the English commentators give him credit. He was so terribly under-rated!

It´s a common mistake call a player underrated, but in this case is so true. Never liked him tbh, but when i started playing semi-pro at collegue team i understood better how good he was for Chelsea.

As regards Chelsea s half a billion plus spent with nothing to show for it, you get to appreciate what you used to have. I'm talking about the glory days when Mike Emenalo was in charge of that department.
John Obi Mikel is such a vibe! He was such a cornerstone for Chelsea. He would hardly lose the ball. His passing was superb...But his fear of shooting even when he was clear was hilarious. You would bet he would look for someone to pass the ball to even when he was clear...
I never imagined that I will watch this till finish. More I watch, more it got interesting.
It was a brilliant presentation, down to earth analogy and a message to the world of sports.♥️🇳🇬🇳🇬
Mikel didn't score many, but the couple he did, boy I went crazy for him. That goal against PSG comes to mind. CFC legend!

Great as ever to hear from one of our less vocal all-time greats. A rock in midfield who dealt with those kidnappers so brilliantly. Deepest respect and affection for you.. It would be great to see you in the stadium if we make UCL final😂
You should call Mikel atleast once every 6 months, I'm loving his interviews😊
This reminds me of my days as a junior athlete. You can't open your mouth around the senior athlete. Nice one Mikel.
It's always lovely watching Mikel here. Please feature him more.
These interviewers know how to get every bit of juice out of this interview. Asking the most interesting questions
We love you mikel you always make it interesting and tell with a smile.. Big ups
100% underrated, as a club legend too. Had one of the best performances in the CL final too.
Had goosebumps when he talked about the remarks of players on Graham Potter's back . That new generation is miles behind the era of the Lampard's Terry Ballack...No BS , they don't like what the manager does, they confront him because they wanted to take responsibility shine and win

Great insight from Mikel. The interviewer is obviously biased towards Potter. Probably didn't watch the games week in week out. Potter was completely lost and clearly out of his depth. No one is questioning his ability as a coach, rather his ability to manage a dressing room full of big egos. Which was clearly lacking.
@amishbhagat4110

I definitely question his ability as a coach and as a manager. He was found wanting. No one expected miracles with this team, but they expected a level of competitiveness far beyond what we saw. Obi is right. The lack of leaders has been a problem for ages.
Thank you Mikel. Your analysis about managing a team on action is very very important. Managers need to awake their players. Managers need to be vibrant and emotional during a game. That is a mentality of winning. Lampard doesn't have this quality which is highly needed. Hope he learns from his past mistakes. Think of Pep., Klopp, Mourinho, Conte, the guy in Juventus. These are classic coaches. They do not want to take nonsense but business for business. They only want to win for the club. Younger coaches should learn from them!
What a story....I like how John Obi shares his story...very honest and makes us understand how football really is like outside the eyes of the media
He brought calm and stability to our beloved C H E L S E A

Obi well done brother
Love hearing John. Needs to do more interviews
very well said. Potter was glued to the chair.
I follow Obi on Insta but never heard him speak at length. He has a calming presence
What a legend, and a great chat. Also the irony that the current Chelsea team is severely missing Mikel's profile of a player. Someone that can hold alone in the mid. We could still do with him, doesn't look like he's aged a bit. 😁
Make him a regular on this show please Mikel knows his football the man speaks facts.
This man was a top top player.
What a lovely interview here 😊
Mikel I love what you said about a coach being multivariated, and you made mentioned of the like of pep Gaudiola mikel Arteta, then you also mentioned of Frank not having this mentality when it come to touchline, you are really right I really always not seeing that from our pass coaches,so I expect to see that characters from Frank now, that energy, that multivation ,I need much tactics demonstrations from him thanks
Awesome stuff man
i remember the time when Mourinho did a sub and its john obi the score is at 1 nil. then you know the game is done. never seen anyone so comfortable on the ball when under pressure
