I’m not a professional, but I was on the 405 freeway here several months ago, and I heard the roar of some beautiful piece of machinery, and I turned around to find out. It was exactly what I was thinking it was a 427 cobra roaring down the freeway, most fucking beautiful sound ever makes me cry
I was at college in the early sixties in Kingston. We made a visit to the original AC factory in Thames Ditton where they made the Cobra. Panels were hand beaten, and the rear leaf springs were coated in grease and wrapped in some kind of cloth. Cars were rolled around the workshop on temporary wheels. Amazing how their cars ended up so special.
Sadly these cars will not be driven, only collected 😮

The very first Daytona Cobra sold for $20 million.
"Guardsman Blue" was one of Fords best colors. I knew some early Mustangs came with it, but didn't know Cobra had the same option. The twin super charged 427 Cobra is not painted in "Guardsman Blue." The GT-40 prototype is painted in "Guardsman Blue", I think the commentator got them mixed up, quite sure of it actually.
The GT40 was based on the English Lola GT Mk76 & was engineered & built in England... Thanks to Ford money etc of course...😊👍

The body looked similar, and different underneath.
I quote: ''The rare 1935 Duesenberg SSJ recently earned the title of most expensive American car to ever be sold at auction. It sold for an astounding $22,000,000 at the Gooding & Company auction during the 2018 Monterey Car Week, which is 60 percent more than the previous most expensive American car, the 1962 Shelby Cobra CSX 2000.''
I got to see and hear a SuperSnake in about 1968. A Old School Master of Aluminum fabrication who worked on exotic cars at his shop in Torrance,ca had one in for body work. As I my dad worked at McCulloch Corp, I was very family with the Paxton Supercharger. The engine idle was very lumpy and the whole tin building shook when he put it in gear. I was not thrilled about the C-6 Automatic in a Cobra. That power train did not make much sense back in the day. Slush boxes did not make for fun on the street in the 60’s. But it was a beautiful car, with a powerful motor that I would like to hear again.

I've said it before I'll say it again, I'm a GM Man dyed in the wool, but, there's one vehicle that would lead me astray, that would be the Ford GT-40. It would be a difficult choice to make for number 2, with all the beauty sitting on 4 wheels here at the auction, so I'll leave that decision for someone else, lol. I did not know the Super Snake had an automatic.
I think that Gary Cooper's 1935 Duesenberg SSJ should be included, as it was certainly "THE" muscle car of its era and at 400HP, the most powerful production car in the world...by far! Only 2 were ever built with Clark Gable having the use of the other one, but not owning it! In 2018, Gary Cooper's sold for a record price for any American car at auction - $22,000,000! GT40 is right hand drive !
@Loulovesspeed
Ай бұрын
@rtalbot87 - For a couple reasons, most all of the GT40s other than the MKIII road cars, were right hand drive. The car began construction in the UK which utilizes RHD. The reason they remained RHD later was it was more suitable for racing, particularly at Le Mans which had mostly right hand turns. The other reason was Le Mans used to have an open pit area with the left side of the cars exposed to the track, obviously a dangerous situation. RHD made it a bit safer in the pit areas.
That prototype cobra was tested in the uk before going over to america it was tested on public roads namely the new M1 motorway and was clocked at around 165 mph and that very car is the reason we have the 70 mph speed limit in the uk on motorways

Very perceptive of you! You apparently know little or nothing about the Shelby Cobra, one of the most iconic sports cars in history. Suggest you read up on it as it is a great story. It was started utilizing an AC Ace body and chassis with an American V8 transplanted into it. The power and torque of the small V8 - 4.7 liter and then the brutal 7 liter engine proved very destructive to the lightweight, comparatively fragile chassis, that previously contained a far less powerful six cylinder engine. This necessitated a completely new, substantially stronger one. Even the AC's original body was enlarged to accept the 427 cu. in V8. By then, there was really nothing more than the pedals that remained from AC Cars. A failing British company that had lost its engine manufacturer coupled with a bold, creative American with a specific goal in mind lead to the Shelby Cobra being produced. The rest is history as they say. It is the most copied car from an aftermarket standpoint in the world!
