The incredible bravery shown by 1st Lt Jimmie W Monteith is the stuff of legend. On D-Day, 6 June 1944, near Colleville-sur-Mer, France. 1st Lt. Monteith landed with the initial assault waves. According to his Medal of Honor citation he "moved up and down the beach reorganizing men for further assault. He then led the assault over a narrow protective ledge and across the flat, exposed terrain to the comparative safety of a cliff. Retracing his steps across the field to the beach, he moved over to where 2 tanks were buttoned up and blind under violent enemy artillery and machinegun fire. Completely exposed to the intense fire, 1st Lt. Monteith led the tanks on foot through a minefield and into firing positions"
The beat of the brave heart of Virginia was brought to a tragic end in the green fields of France.
Jimmie W. Monteith now rests in the American Cemetery in Normandy, a fallen hero among many. His cross is emblazoned with a golden star and the inscription “Medal of Honor.”
The medal would be delivered to his mother during a simple ceremony in her home. She placed it next to a picture of Jimmie she kept on her mantel.

I see Yarnhub made the same mistake as Spielberg. Those wooden logs in the water are facing the wrong direction. They were used to flip landing craft over and sometimes had spikes/blades to tear holes in the craft, or mines to blow them up. Funnily enough the game he is plugging (Enlisted, which is a great game) models the fortifications on D-Day correctly.

Most heroes lie buried in the grounds they fought on.
i went to the Normany American cemetery, it was very impressive seeing all those crosses. Sadly I Havent seen 1st Lt Jimmie W Monteith's cross, that same day i also went to omaha beach. To be honest, the beach wasn't anything special. But the thought of just walking there on a peaceful beach, knowing that so many young men fought and died there, its just so surreal.

My late Uncle Mick 1923 - 2018, took part in the Invasion of Normandy, in the third wave of military personnel on the 10th of June 1944. He saw things that no human should ever see, and fought all the way to Berlin, in May 1945. He always refused to talk about his experiences, I am certain he was very traumatized by what he had witnessed and lived through. Ironically he married a German woman Helene, they were together for 49 years. Amazing man.
A bloody hero on a bloody battle of Normandy! Bloody hell this video was amazing, Yarnhub! Keep it up! Still, rest in peace for the hero. He won't be forgotten.

MEDAL OF HONOR CITATION For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty on 6 June 1944, near Coleville-sur-Mer, France. 1st Lt. Monteith landed with the initial assault waves on the coast of France under heavy enemy fire. Without regard to his own personal safety, he continually moved up and down the beach reorganizing men for further assault. Monteith led the tanks on foot through a minefield and into firing positions. Under his direction, several enemy positions were destroyed. He then rejoined his company and under his leadership, his men captured an advantageous position on the hill. Supervising the defense of his newly won position against repeated vicious counterattacks, he continued to ignore his own personal safety, repeatedly crossing the 200 or 300 yards of open terrain under heavy fire to strengthen links in his defensive chain. When the enemy succeeded in completely surrounding 1st Lt. Monteith and his unit and while leading the fight out of the situation, 1st Lt. Monteith was killed by enemy fire. The courage, gallantry, and intrepid leadership displayed by 1st Lt. Monteith is worthy of emulation. Born: July 1, 1917, Low Moor, VA. Died: June 6, 1944, Normandy, France. Place of burial: Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.

Superb job as always. Bangalore torpedo is sometimes called a 'mine' by laymen, it was designated as the 'Bangalore Torpedo', usually referred to as just 'Bangalore' in combat. Mines are designated as 'stationary explosive devices', land mines buried, and or anchored magnetic mines in water, placed and left until something triggers it. 6:19 love the detail of the Duplex Drive tanks, "Donald Ducks".

I think my favorite part of yarnhub’s animations is the way he humanizes the characters. The subtle gestures and expressions make them far more believable than other animated history channels, and they feel much more lifelike too
Awesome. I just visited Normandy so its really great to see this story be told here. I want to compliment the accuracy of the land depicted as well, I couldn't tell you if every detail is exactly right but it matches what I saw.
Teddy Roosevelt jr also helped D day tremendously. He rallied his troops changed the beach head. They actually landed in the wrong spot. He said it was the better beach. He was awarded the medal of Honor

Brilliant animation about a true hero. I've visited Omaha beach and it's a lovely sandy place which makes it hard to imagine the carnage that took place there. The cemetery is also a must and overlooks the beach - not all the casualties were buried there but you begin to understand just how many lost their lives.
This guy was supremely brave to do any of what he did on this day. Shame he didn't get to live a long life afterwards. Tragic. Great video.
A truly spectacular video, I've seen countless stories of the D-day landings, but never this, thank you for sharing this story, and as always, bravo Yarnhub
Have a good day
I love the slow mo shots, it really helps you understand just how bloody and hard it was for both sides
Now this is one of you’re best videos and depictions to date. The visuals and story telling are enlightening.
I just want to extend my compliments on how good the animation has gotten. There's a lot of detail you get into everything and it is noticed and appreciated!
The heroic (true) story, your instantly recognizable voice narrating, and what I say without question; is your best video to date. This channel has gotten better and better over time. Keep it up man! Such great content!
Me:surely Yarnhub’s animations can’t get any better Yarnhub: and I took that personally
A moment of silence for heroes of Omaha (and yarnhub's awesome animations too)
I love the cinematic look in this video. Great job as usual.
I cant fathom being in battle knowing there is an excellent chance you will get killed or badly injured.. The sacrifice people make is incredible
There are quite a few good stories about the men who landed at the D-Day beaches. One of which is that of Forrest Everhart. He also received a Medal of Honor, but it wasn’t for his actions during D-Day. It was awarded for actions later, during the Normandy campaign.
I can't stress enough in how much your animation quality has improved with every video you made, Yarnhub. Like those slow mo shots are just something else. Great work🔥
That slo-mo trench shot, wow. Hollywood couldn't do it any better.
Saving Private Ryan is such a masterpiece that every video game and everything d-day related for the last 25 years has a reference to it. whether it is an hommage or just stealing.
If you haven’t already done these. I suggest videos for Michael Wittmann, Hershel Woodrow Williams, Sgt Reckless, Tony Stein, John Basilone. Just to name a few. Love the work you do. Your animators and production staff have my respect.
Man, these animations and panoramic shots are getting crazier and crazier. Also the writing was nothing short of poetry at the end.
That was a nice documentary of one of many heroic events that taken place in Normandy France during D-Day June 6, 1944.
Outstanding video as always and great animation!!! May I suggest the Action off Bastia for future videos? It's the very first act of resistance by the Italian army against the Germans after the armistice
The quality of these is getting so good
So glad Yarnhub and others like it keep the memory of these brave outstanding men and women alive. Thank you.
