    To me, I always felt Andy Garcia was playing that IN character… his character is Hispanic too, and he understands the implications of their investigation. There’s a TINY part of him that not only wants these kids to be telling the truth, but also feels that they’ve been given a bad shake. This act of defiance actually amuses him, only he’s trying his hardest not to let them in on his thoughts. Ultimately… I really believe that he’s in their side, but is just doing his job.

  • @perrycarters3113

    @perrycarters3113

    Asking if they did it is kind of moot. That's like a cop pulling someone over and asking "Hey, did you rob that convenience store?" and taking their word for it. Even if you have them dead to rights, with the money still in their hand and the gun and mask on the passenger seat, most people would still try to deny it. They didn't have anything that amounted to a smoking gun. They had circumstantial-and, admittedly, what would normally be very suspicious evidence-the odds of a bunch of kids all making the exact same errors on the exact same questions is not high, and their system was not designed to account for a single class of students, all taught from the same teacher, passing the AP test. If you come in talking like you know they did it and you're offering some false understanding, you're more likely to elicit a confession, especially from a bunch of kids. I 100% understand Escalante's frustration and anger. He had good reason for it and, given how much he put into his teaching, it was justified. That being said, those two guys are not villains. Presumptuous and maybe arrogant, sure, but they weren't villains. They weren't trying to make the kids fail, and they offered a very simple 'out' by offering to let them retake the test under stricter supervision. Their initial refusal to retake the test also invites further suspicion, but again, I understand WHY they initially refused.

    @@lokeymexican Most Latino where I live are very intelligent. Certainly, their propensity is high. It's all up to the individual. The probability of me becoming smart was low because I was brought up in a very backwards, rustic, environment. My father was so mean that he forbid me to have access to books. That was during the 1960's. He sucked. I still remember the time he caught me with a dictionary and knocked out four of my teeth. Fortunately, it was my baby teeth. I was only 7 years old. I know all about a tough life. Escalante isn't the only one who has helped students. I have helped many of them. I remember Ariana. A Latino Girl. She was failing every class until I suggested that she take her studies to the library which is located right down the street from her house. When she did that, she soon went from failing to becoming an honor student and skipping two grades in school. The first time I spoke with her, I could see that she is intelligent, but she did not have the right type of guidance. A few years later, she seen me in a restaurant, walked up to me, and gave me a great big hug and said thank you for helping me. That really made my night.

    @@lokeymexican It takes a little insight to see what is being done. There are malevolent opulent cults who seek to keep the lower class people in their place by utilizing deceptive psychology. Such people, believe it or not, come from very diversified racial backgrounds. Think about this one: If American History is extracted from the public school's curriculum, then the students will lose. History is called history for a reason, and when we study it, we're supposed to be doing it from an objective perspective. In other words, we read about the evil for the purpose of knowing how to stop it from happening again, but if we aren't educated about it, then the same devious tactics can be brought back into our society, and we will one day suffer again. As an analogy. I have read Machiavelli's philosophy theory, but does that make me a Machiavellian? No. He was certainly a very evil soul, and his philosophy is insidious. That is, he starts out subtle and sounds very convincing, but later on, if one utilizes logic, then he/she will understand that he was a bad person. But, how do we defend against such manipulators if we know nothing about them? History helps one to spot evil and deal with it effectively before everyone gets trapped. I always encourage people to read objectively and never take anything to heart. No matter how evil that person might seem, irrational thought can create even more chaos. The educated approach is to read from an "outside" perspective, and then to formulate opinions. If what we read is evil, then our objective is to understand that evil and to learn how to prevent it from happening again. Being ignorant about such evils leaves us vulnerable and it causes people to be naive and stupid.

  • @guitarttimman

    @@lokeymexican I just want to say one more thing. I wish to be viewed as a friend of the Latino Community. The only quark I have is that I have an eccentric sense of humor. I fight it. lol. I have been teaching school for a few years, and I have noticed that, for the most part, the Latino Children, are, believe it or not, more astute than the other kids. ha ha. That blows my mind because many movies try to make it appear to be the other way around. Latino kids, on average, are much more respectful and very friendly. I think most people should understand the second law of thermodynamics because it helps us. There is a word. It's called entrapy. It means disorder. According to the second law of thermodynamics, the entrapy of a system cannot decrease unless work is done to decrease it. An analogy is if you do not clean your room. If you do not clean it, it's going to keep getting messier right? It takes work to keep it clean and thus keep the entrapy low. That's true about the evil element. When we find friends, we should harness them, and fight to keep them safe because they are trying to help us right? I always try to help less fortunate kids to catch up and develop high self esteem. I enjoy helping others who think they cannot do what they can do. Sir. I am a friend.
