Ren recorded this when he was back in UK over the Christmas period. It took just 10 days from the concept of mashing these songs together to this finished recording. There is BTS footage of Ren practising it while hooked up to an IV drip. They only had 2 hours to film this in a tiny corner of a pub in Brighton. Kai, the bass player, is Ren's friend and assistant who normally shoots the BTS videos. Sylvia and Scarlett, the backing singers, did a great job. As did Samuel Perry-Falvey behind the camera. Superb team effort !

You were talking about how to describe Ren to anyone else? This song is it. It has that R&B/Soul vibe with Back on 74; instrumentals and backup to boot with Ren playing guitar and singing. Then you have the RAP interlude with his self styled naughty dope schemes. Finally Ren finishes off with classic rock Message in a Bottle--sounding very much exactly like Sting--all while still playing the guitar. This remix is a classic Ren video and a great introduction for any new Ren listener and potential fan.

REN posted a BTS making of this retake, it’s fascinating…from conception to recording it was completed in 10 days…it was shot one shot live in a local bar in Brighton. He added that whole rap/singing section in the middle of back on 74 that gave the song a nod to rapping and how it can be blended seamlessly into a retro sounding song. He was also playing the opening cords to message in a bottle while he was singing back on 74. Comparing his retake on these 2 songs….His version is much more intimate, a real vibe that improves on what where 2 already great originals. The raw quality of the singing without all the production on back on 74 is without a doubt something so sublime and more reminiscent of the seventies. The police performs what is a song about social isolation and loneliness much too fast for me personally. The Studio version is even more pop music sounding. For REN to take 2 songs that would never be thought of as being combined into a mash up is…🤯. He rehearsed with Sylvia and Scarlett once before the shoot and of course the day of the shoot on location at the bar…again 🤯 they sound like they have been performing together for years. The setting for the shoot was also perfection and while watching it you feel like you are there. I can’t think of anybody out there doing what REN is doing and at such a high level. Whether it is original material or his take on someone else’s music he makes it his own. The fact that he is an independent artist who produces such top tier musical art without all the so called bells and whistles….again 🤯. He is dropping another retake this coming Thursday🤗 it’s another retake the song is Halftime by Nas Meanwhile he is working on his next album which should be out later this year and I cannot wait!!! Hey guys, I'm new here but have been binging your Ren reactions. I love the mix of humor and seriousness you two bring. Another rabbit hole to go down that always makes me feel great is Harry Mack. I'd be surprised if I am the first to recommend him, but all I will say is he is known for his ingenious freestyle capability. Not the "freestyles" you normally hear, but real off the top freestyle, that is cohesive. Much like the renegade, there is a whole army of us waiting to show up for to new reactions to talent like that, and would love to see your guys' take on him. Most reactors start with his video, "Omegle Bars 45" but you can't really go wrong with any of his Omegle Bars/Guerilla Bars for a first time experience. Either way, thanks so much for being a fun channel to hang out and experience Ren with!

Right there with you smiling though this - and I love the fun you guys have together discovering and enjoying Ren’s art. I love how on this, there are bits where Ren has the women take the lead and he’s the one doing backup vocals - and Kai on base gets his moment to really shine too. But how Ren manages to be about 4 completely different singers and a rapper (or 2) all in one track is just next level

You just need to read prophecy again to understand who "the hell" Res is. I'm enjoying this first phase as well.

Question for you all. Who are some other multi-talented artists you know of in the last 20 years. Ren tops the list for me. Then there is Darren Chris. Broadway style, I would have to choose Matt Borner. Rap, not sure of anyone contemporary, but there are many stars of late on the independent side; many of which are not multi-talented.
