It's mostly because the govt itself was in denial mode. Despite overwhelming proof that the country is going through one of the worst health crisis in recent history, they denied any news saying oxygen shortage, hospital bed shortage and even didn't't even declare the death numbers. Police took action on people who shared the news in social media because it was spoiling the govt image. The burning pyres image which shook the international community and made countries to react was dealt with religious color. It was so obvious the govt and it's supporters don't want the world to know the reality. But wanted and accepted any help from them. A lesser sad part of the story is lakhs of first time investors were destroyed because most of the coins donated were on hype at that time. These donations were sold to to USD or INR. It collapsed the price. An unintended consequence.

Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession , defined as a contraction in annual global per capita income , is more rare because China and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies . Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth
