Brad, at one point after the 1997 Asian crisis, the Malaysian Ringgit was pegged to USD1=RM3. 8, there were RM500 note and also RM1,000 note, now those notes are discontinued. The RM100 is now the highest value note. The new RM5 and RM1 notes are made durable from plastic.

The money colour scheme is from the British colonial era. Some similarities in colour will be seen on bank notes from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. The currencies used to be par value till 1973 when Malaysia left the currency union. Singapore and Brunei have retained the union hence you could use their bank notes in either country.

In addition to being durable and not easily torn, the polymer banknote does not absorb water, is cleaner to handle and lasts longer. Malaysia has achieved many successes in various fields at the international level, for example in terms of sports and education. Since then, Malaysia has been active in providing aid to other countries affected by calamities. In the 1990s, the Malaysian Army became the savior of the USA army that was surrounded by terrorist areas in African countries.
