Рада за Віктора і вважаю що взагалі він гідний олімпійського золота. Але дуже шкода, що він отримав його таким чином, з такою нудною (на мій погляд), старою та слабо виконаною програмою. Адже завжди хочеться щоб олімпійський прокат був бездоганний. Його щастя, що конкуренти тоді були також не в найкращій формі і судді виявилися більш прихильні до нього.

И если бы америкосы или япошки напали на россию, отжали территории, устроили геноцид и сравняли бы с землей десяток городов, российских спортсменов в их шоу тоже бы дискриминировали. Выступать на россии уже после 2014 года было равносильно спать за деньги с соседом, который отобрал у тебя часть дома, убил твоего отца и изнасиловал сестру. Моего города нет.

Чудово, улюбленець публіки!, Справжній актор,браво!!!!

Просто выходил и валил всех на лопатки, то что у него и техника для того времени очень сильная, а то какая у него харизма, насколько он артистичен, спектакль на льду, каждое выступление. Галина Змиевская, гений конечно, она его сделала, и ее муж, и безграничный талант Виктора. Любили, любим и всегда будем любить. Его выступления и при сегодняшнем невероятном скачке фигурного катания, смотрибельны и захватывают.

Скачок стремительный, но смотреть интересно душевное, артистичное, харизматичное фигурное катание периода Петренко, Гордеевой с Гриньковым, а не современную сухую акробатику на льду, душу не трогает.

I watched this as a young girl and couldn’t understand how Paul Wylie didn’t win. Watching again now over 30 years later, Petrenko skated even worse than I remember. Wylie really deserved the gold. The audience knew it.

Если бы он показал сложность Петренко и Барны, завалил бы всё, не успев начать выступление. Барна намного лучше откатался в произвольной программе, и был выше после короткой, но ему занизили. А по справедливости бронзу заслужил Вячеслав Загороднюк, которого очень некрасиво недооценили и в короткой, и в произвольной программах, потому что молодой и из бывшего СССР.

Petrenko was a very lucky boy. He was handed the gold medal on reputation alone. Paul Wylie outskated him that night, but the judges would not give Wylie the gold he deserved. But for a few dishonest judges, Petrenko would have had a silver medal - the medal he actually should have been given

Same with Johnny Weir in 2010. Gorgeous performances and judges would not award him even the Bronze. Ironic rhat Viktor was on his coaching team and Galina his coach! Judges were cruel to Johnny. ​@mortner3669

As much as I love Viktor, those technical scores were way too high given his mistakes.

I just watched Patrick Chen's gold medal skate, and felt absolutely nothing. Just a lot of impressive jumps, but nothing aesthetic. I had to look up this video to see if I hadn't misremembered the figure skating of my childhood. There really was more artistry back then. There really has been a sacrifice of balletic quality in this pursuit of more airborne spinning.

Just watched Wylie and then this. Victor was given the gold. Both had mistakes but Wylie's performance was inspired and the mistakes not nearly as bad.

Scott Hamilton is on record saying Brian Orser should have taken gold. Don't worry, Orser is an in-demand coach who has produced gold, silver, and bronze medal Olympians. In the meantime Scott has battled cancer multiple times.

Viktor was in a way responsible for Oksana Baiul's 1994 gold, so he was there first as well as a coach.

Nearly fell twice but pulled it off quite well!

Yall I used to figure skate.. his performance has serious skill and oh too many jumps.. you serious! Do you not know the skill in those jumps over footwork in comparison? Maybe try doing this yourselves he did amazing!

Ok now that I’ve watched all 3 medal performances I think it should have been Petrenko 1, Wylie 2, and Bowman 3. This was not Petrenkov’s best performance but it was artistically off the scale as always. Technically it was very good and the triples and jumps he did perfectly were of better quality than Wylie’s. What a tragedy Bowman died of a drug overdose. He could have done so much more.

Free skate is for artistry and stamina, Victor showed neither of these, his arms were almost completely at his sides for the better part of the ending and he was to exhausted to even do one split jump where Paul did three. Unfortunately he and Kurt Browning were favored and there was no way one of them weren't coming away with the gold.

PaigeGillian Chinault If Barna had skated cleanly, he might have snuck it out. The judges LOVED Barna even though he had a reputation for being inconsistent. But he would have needed to be squeaky clean because he didn’t have a technical advantage over the other guys. But Paul had enough minor mistakes to give the judges a reason not to be in his corner

Watching and his arms are always out or moving and NOT at his side like you say. And those spins were very much more difficult. Get over it..all of you guys complaining here over the years, he won!

I love Victor BUT this was absolutely not a gold 🥇 medal performance! It's as if the judges didn't even penalize him for the fall and all the mistakes he made Paul Wylie was ROBBED and was unjustly served. It should have gone the other way. Paul GOLD. Victor SILVER 🥈

I think if Midori competed in the man field she could’ve won !! Even with the fall in the first 3axel she didn’t made many mistakes like him hahah

This was such a complicated night of judging, so many flawed performances that it was hard to compare and contrast them. Ordinals were strange in some cases, all over the map. Regardless I think Wylie should have won the long program and thus the gold, Victor landed more jumps total (although both triple toes were tenuous) but Wylie's mistakes were less ugly and less disruptive to the flow of the program. Artistically Wylie was significantly better than anyone else in the field that night. Barna's performance was overrated I felt, I think Stojko and Bowman should both have placed ahead of him in the long.

Very close call who was best that night. Petrenko was better on technical (landed one more triple than Wylie and had the 3axel-3toe), that said his spins were not as good as Wylie's. Wylie was better on the second mark for sure, Petrenko has good basic skating and speed but his program was quite empty in terms of choreography and transitions.

Oh Viktor, I love yah, but WOOF. It looks like a program in progress and he's figuring out where to place the jumps and choreography. He looks so wobbly here. Did he have the flu?

Maybe the weakest performance ever to win Olympic gold. If you’re being nit picky, he only landed four clean triples. (I’m not counting the triple toe in the combination at the top because he didn’t hold that landing). The triple toe after the double axel also was...eh. The lack of stamina really showed. I love Viktor to pieces but he really was saved by Browning and Barna not skating well enough to challenge him, and Wylie not being favored enough with the judges to win a major title. Paul rather obviously had the performance of the night-wasn’t flawless but it wasn’t as flawed as what Viktor put down-but only two judges put him first in the free. Some judges had him out of the medals all together! Very curious. Even if you give him credit for five triples, that’s the same as what Wylie did. But Viktor missed every jump in the latter half of the program. How that didn’t hurt him more in both marks...that’s a reputation thing

I believe the judges from Australia and Canada had Wylie in first in the free... but I totally agree with what you're saying, the judges were judging this competition based on International reputation instead of content

@@mikeg4576 You're right. But still. Only two judges had him first? Some judges had him behind Barna and some had him out of the medals. Just by the ordinals, he was lucky to stay ahead of Barna. So for many judges, it was never a question of whether he should win. Paul definitely had mistakes but so did the other top guys. I find it so odd his mistakes weren't deemed less severe by the majority.

Should've been 4th place.

I watched Wylie's performance and thought that he was kind of lucky to win silver with his mistakes, but watching this, I actually think a case can be made that Wylie's performance, though flawed, was better than this. Other than Petrenko having a triple-triple combination, Petrenko really has no technical edge over Wylie. Petrenko's mistakes were more flagrant, and his performance is not as inspiring.

In my mind there’s no question Wylie’s performance was better. Viktor was shaky throughout and a couple of severe errors. The lack of stamina badly hurt the performance, which, for me, didn’t have much oomph. Wylie skated with heart and while he did make mistakes , they weren’t nearly as severe. Technically, most felt Stojko had the best performance of the night. Even Urmanov. But they were too far back to make a dent. It was down to Petrenko, Barna and Wylie and of those three, Wylie delivered the best in my mind. But of those three, he was the least liked by the judges and it showed.

Side by side, Paul Wylie should have been awarded Gold and Petrenko Silver. Both had stumbles and Paul didn't land a combination jump, but Victor had too many mistakes to call this a Gold medal performance. Politics and Bad judging for sure.

I have great respect for Petrenko but that was a very mediocre long program. Paul Wylie should have gotten the gold.

ペトレンコのジャンプは美しい。だが全体を通してみるとやはりジャンプに特価して勢力をつぎ込んだ感が否めない。今は進化の進捗が速い時代。当時とすればやはり王者に相応しい滑りなのだろうが・・・。

Да и его выступление, далеко не чемпионские, политика вмешалась! Нужно было показать Миру, что после развала Союза, в республиках Все 👌. Ошибаться, делать бабочки и приземляться себя с руками ,как- то не подобает победителю ОИ!

Ugh, this was awful. I never saw his olympic performance until now but did see the '92 worlds which was even worse. Wylie should've won the gold and Barna the silver and Victor should've been nowhere near the podium. He was carried by the judges due to reputation for the same reason Wylie was underscored.

Виктор вытянул свой билет. Но катать три сезона одну произвольную программу ума большого не надо. Тем более ошибок в Альбервиле было как минимум три. Слишком уж судьи были лояльны к одному из лучших фигуристов мира. Вот его возвращение в 1994 году в любители,это зря. Репутационных потерь не избежал,как и Витт,и Торвилл и Дин. Уходя уходи. Сегодня с таким контентом он не отобрался в произвольную.

He falls out of two jumps, downgrades two more jumps to doubles, has crooked air positions, and unstable landings and spins. This is easily the most unworthy men's Olympic figure skating gold medal in history. Paul Wylie should have won gold. His performance was far better, and he landed all his jumps.

Oof, not a very gold medal skate. He actually looks out of shape as he didn’t hit any jumps in the second half. He got lucky & got a gold from politics & reputation.

He did not deserve the gold medL. hE MADE MORE MISTAKES THAN pAUL wYLIE. pAUL HAD MUCH BETTER ARTISTRY.

He should have been disqualified for wearing that horrible jacket and terrible haircut. WTF!!
