Considering this was in 2005 a number of the elderly veterans must have joined their perished comrades by now. May they rest in peace and will always be grateful for their generation's sacrifice.

I feel like this is the most soviet parade, the abundance of soviet symbols and the atmosphere reminds me of the 7 November parades

As it shod, as this is a parade commemorating the Victory over Fascist Germany and must have all the Historical Flags and symbols of that time, but Today such examples can be rarely seen in the Parade, while the Modern Russian Army and modern elements are greatly shown, shadowing the entire parade sometimes sadly......

All of the Russian officials - Putin, the generals, etc. were members of the Communist Party. Putin himself was a Colonel in the KGB...

For me, the main reason why this parade still feels so Soviet was the music. Although there are xylophones in the band, they simply didn't use it, so it just likes a classic brass band like in the Soviet era. As you can hear that in the past few years, they play the xylophones so much that they give extra "high notes" in the music.

It was also interesting to see Sergei Sokolov there. It must have been memorable for him as he was there exactly 20 years earlier inspecting troops and giving a speech at Lenin's mausoleum at the 1985 victory day parade.

It was only till the Brezhnev era that the Soviet began to remember the struggles of the Great Patriotic war and began to honor what the men and women sacrificed during that fight. Before the Brezhnev years, Stalin looked at the world war 2 generation with disgust for how the fighting was struggle for the red army. The years after, Soviet Veterans were send outside of Moscow to the Northern Territory to keep them out of sight. The pension they received for being badly damaged was equivalent to buy a gallon of milk

I love how Bush legitimately enjoys the parade. Perhaps the little boy in him emerged to show amazement and joy. Bush isn't the only one. A lot of the heads of state seemed to enjoy it. God, I hope they never stop hosting these parades. If I ever get the chance in my life to visit one, I will take it without thinking twice.

I always enjoyed listening to stories of the world war 2 veterans. And to see the Russians load up hundreds of veterans if the Great Patriotic war and put them in trucks to participate in this parade - it goes to show they cherish their WW2 veterans.

32:49-32:54 и 1:12:40-1:12:50 - В кадре виден легендарный грузинский лётчик-штурмовик 85-летный Шота Иосифович Шургая (в синем мундире), герой СССР, полковник авиации, который скончалься 16 августа того же года. Похоронен в Тбилиси со всеми воинскими почестями.

This is a big event back then. I heard that high-level representatives from 65 countries was presented, included about : 56 state leaders, the UN chief and the EU chief. It was the largest gathering of world leaders in Russian history, isn’t it ?

Unfortunate. Eisenhower said parading around missiles is a sign of an inferiority complex, military parades should be for exactly as you described, honoring veterans. Russia should NOT be like North Korea.

This was before the west stabbed Russia in the back after 2007 Putin munich speech, then by gave Sakahshvilli permission to attack russian peace keeper in 2008 Georgian War. Things drastically changed ever since, 2009 Libya war, 2011 Syrian war and 2014 Ukraina Maidan. 2015 Russian officially enter Syrian war... As much as NATO keep expanding to the east, Russian Army is only growing better and stronger than before.

Because, Germany unconditionally surrendered to Soviet Union in 1945 and the parade was all about commemorate that event.

It is incredible to see Western Europe, Japan, The United States and the Russian Federation united in Red Square. Glory and peace to all those great veteran heroes. ✨💙

In 1995 my grandfather, a Pole from Lower Silesia, received a medal from Moscow on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of VICTORY. The whole family was shocked because the Russians grandfather took them to the army in April and released them in May. He didn't fight for a long time but the medal is there.😃 В 1995 году мой дедушка, поляк из Нижней Силезии, получил медаль из Москвы по случаю 50-летия ПОБЕДЫ. Вся семья была в шоке, потому что дедушка русских взял их в армию в апреле и отпустил в мае. Он долго не сражался, но медаль есть. 😀

I am Bulgarian but my great grandma was a field nurse during WW2 and she was with the Bulgarian partisans. Sadly she died in 2006 when I was 3 y/o and barely remember her.

Feels like a alternative timeline where the world was one family and not separated by factions

Золотые времена тогда были на парады приезжали руководители западных королевств, тогда еще были добрососедские отношения с Украиной и доллар по 25-30$ и пенсионный возраст 50 лет для женщин и 55 для мужчин, тогда Путин был абсолютно другим, и именно тогда считалось что вот-вот и Россия заживёт нужно просто немного потерпеть. Сравнивая этот парад с сегодняшними понимаешь что опять все просрано и восстанавливаться будет также тяжело. Печально это все
