Great review . Modern joes look terrible and are flimsy pieces of garbage sadly . Nothing compares to vintage .
My dad had to take something back after Christmas to Sears and I was with him. The set was half price and I talked him in to buying it for me.
You bring up Cobra's fascism. I bet they considered themselves the anti-fascists fighting a fascist government.
If magic really did exist, and HCC788s collection really HAD vanished into eternity, plans for COBRA Convergence V would disappear as well! (I think this also happened to the JOE collection of formbx257 too)
That missile looks like Project Pluto, a proposed 1960's US nuclear-propelled doomsday weapon.
Weird how the Officier and trooper come with real life weapons and Cobra Commander comes with a hair dryer.
As much as I hate Haslabs, I do wish they'd do a plastic and proper 3D version of this playset, with a proper silo missile. I'm sure collectors would love to have that.

It's a bit funny that for all the impressive and memorable large scale playsets G.I. Joe would end up putting out, this is how it started.

Great review. As a kid I actually had that Fort Apache playset as well as thhe Cape Canaveral one. Both were made od tin and were like suit cases. I spent many a day playing with them until my G.I.Joes came along.
LOL at the end, never knew of this set until later in life, was fortunate to get the Comic Con a few weeks after my birthday
