It has been well established that solid tumors evolve mechanisms to escape immune surveillance by creating an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment through a process called immune editing. These include alterations of components of the antigen presentation machinery, secretion of immunosuppressive factors and recruitment of regulatory cell populations. All these mechanisms may cooperate in advanced stages of cancer to render tumor cells resistance to immune system and limit the effectiveness of immunotherapy against cancer. -Creative BioMart
