Hayley Williams gets honest about vulnerability, mental health, and writing as therapy

Ойын-сауық

"If it weren't for writing throughout my teenage years, ... my growth as a human would have been stunted... I've needed all the records that Paramore has ever made, and I think that this one [Petals For Armor] is the most crucial to me, and my mental health as an adult." - Hayley Williams

FLdancer00 yep there are many celebrities who have been transparent about MH, but not many have openly spoke about taking medication to help them. There are many stigmas that comes along with taking medication; saying it’s an easy fix, that taking meds means ur “weak” or that you’ve failed or it will turn u zombie-like. Only felt obliged to comment on her courage since she’s the first celebrity that i know of to talk about taking medication to give her that extra boost in the right direction, that’s all.

Hey.. I'm not sure what a "pleb" is. Is it a nice, gentle, good person surrounded by narcists.? By seeking a solution to ""myself"" I found a "36yr old myself" was very inter-dependent to rotten people. My answer was to run away, but I found the same shit w/lesser smell. No one can help because, as I NOW kno at 56, nearly ALL of us have the same yucky feelings, most all just keep them private. I do Kno about being painfully alone, it a good skill to develope, but it's not healthy to stay in aloneness. Using your own form of "Meditation" which just means 'deep thought' helps a lot. I try to remember my life year by year. It's mostly fun! Eyes open tho! U'll see that u r always alone: Even in a room full familiar folks, I am alone... I know I've found moments of "clarity" thru the clouds of doubt.. Those are driven by yourself too but "clarity" comes from being w/others that are good, if not nice. --- U can only find ur solution IN yourself. AND YOU WILL always find it again; & again... Don't stop seeking your future, THAT will make you feel good.

You have the determination not to give up, that's the most important thing you need to get out of this mess so I trust you'll manage. And all those years wont be vain, you're building a lot of strenght and being able to go though what you went already demands a lot of strenght so you have all of the weapons (or at least most of them), and need to understand how to use them. Spirituality can help, if you havent already, try to learn more about it, and not necessaraly religion. Remember that there are a lot of ways of living and that one of them suits you, you will find it, don't lose hope. Sorry, that was a long reply, good luck for your journey, it's only a matter of time and effort.

It's Great she's talking about living with, rather than suffering from mental illness..... Too often people are promised or looking for a magic cure when simply there isn't one, but that doesn't mean life is vacant meaning or happiness. I survived my suicide three years ago, I now use my experience to help people in self-help meetings, in that way even the darkness period of my life may have a meaning... even if it's to help just one other person, it's enough. Speaking out she is reaching so many more than one...

True character and bravery to speak about these issues, mental health is such a hard topic to talk about but so important to discuss. Huge Well done to Hayley Williams, she’s using her ‘celebrity’ and ‘role model’ podium to talk about real life important issues that effect so many while actually trying to help and make a positive difference in the world. What an absolute legend! Anyone who reads this that needs to hear it Keep going, work on improving yourself by small increments each day and keep track of your achievements no matter how small. Things do get better, I know that seems like standard words you hear and read but never give up. Help others and add to the world in a positive way and you will see how valuable, determined and brilliant you truly are when you put your mind into it. As a great movie quote goes ‘It doesn’t matter how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and Keep. Moving. Forward. Because that’s how winning is done! You’ve got this.

It's awesome that you're talking about this in the context of #ImListening. Thanks for sharing your story and struggles and letting people see that real part of you and understand that we all have our shining moments and our crappy ones, even stars. I've struggled for years with self-doubt, being hyper-critical of myself. I'm struggling to love myself every day, whether it's a high day or a low day. For me, that's the simplest truth. You have to love yourself, be in a loving and honest relationship with yourself. Just like you want from your partner if you manage to find them. And it's a struggle every day. For everyone. Don't judge people by their outward success or outward confidence. Know that everyone struggles. And everyone's struggles are unique. Thank you for coming back from your dark days and sharing your art with all of us. Take hope in the fact that you help so many of us in our struggles because we enjoy your art, or are touched by the parts of you that show through it.

I’ve listened to “petals for armor” a few times to really understand and comprehend this new sound from Hayley. I didn’t like it at first, but the more I listened, the more I appreciated the artistry. You can tell from the sound, lyrics, and visuals that the new tracks are completely real and from a deep place. It’s dark, but it speaks truth about how we really feel sometimes, and the person that we are when nobody is around. I’ve been in love with Hayley, and her music for a long time now. I have to say that this is definitely the realest thing I’ve ever heard from her. Although I know it’s coming from a dark place. I am liking the new sound.

That couldn't have been easy for Hayley to be so open about her issues, thank you for that and maybe it will help others to see they're not alone in how they feel.

My favorite artist has always been Emily Haines of Metric. She expresses her thoughts and worries through her writing and music and I see a lot of similarities with Hayley! Hayley had stated many times in the past that she looks up to Emily, they toured together and praised each other through the years and I feel like she sees her as a role model! I love both Paramore and Metric and I'm so glad that there is this universality of feelings and thoughts among great front women who are open to share their thoughts and tell us all that we are not alone..

Oh wow I wasn't a Paramore can but this woman just revealed such insight I feel and shared a piece of her soul. It's human to be all aspects of emotional states within moments, I've always struggled with depression and she was dead on how she says she can go from wanting to die to still knowing she loves life at the same time..

I know you will most likely not see this, but I gotta say, Just stumbled across this and completely blown away by you exposing your most inner thoughts and feelings. Do you realize that you are definitely an old soul? You appear so grounded with yourself now and seems truly happy and your outlook is so positive. . . Thank you for showing the real personal side of you, and letting people know its okay to not be okay, once you admit your not okay, and life and mental health challenges are not always balloons and pony rides... ..Many people facing the same challenges as you NEED to see this segment. I too have been there, and sometimes still it does rear its ugly head, but I'm prepared.. and because of conversations like this, I am still here...and am thankful for it every single day. It makes sense to me now. Thanks for sharing and Cheers.

i'm happy to see her own her depression and mental health issues. it's not easy for the average person but to be a celebrity of a big band I can imagine it's super overwhelming. I'm just happy she's getting the help she needs in whatever form that is as long as she's safe. Keep on tuning into yourself and always being yourself and don't change for anyone!!!!
