I don’t know if Pies were preserving themselves for finals, but they got smashed. The video doesn’t do Hawks justice. The way they tackled and hunted, contested, spoiled, moved the ball… 2024 is gonna be big for the Hawks. Imagine the confidence they’ll get from this win. One of the youngest teams in the comp. Unless Pies have something else up their sleeve, they may’ve been found out. Teams know how to beat them.

Collingwood had some great offensive pressure but Hawthorn were just sensational. Sam Mitchell should be proud. The biggest downside for Hawthorn though was when they gave Collingwood 2 goals without a centre bounce. That’s when I thought the Pies would start running away with it. But No, Well done Hawthorn.

Collingwood's offensive structure fell apart and was put on notice last night by Hawthorn. Teams that put the extra number out the back like Geelong or Melbourne would never let the penetrating kick from mid to inside 50 happen so easily. It was a clash of two very different game styles and ultimately Collingwood lost before the first bounce even happened. It's too late in the season for the top 8 teams to be copying Hawks but there are a few aspects of the game that will be put on review for the teams coming up against the top team.
