I remember Hawkwind back in the day, now I am 70 years old. Thinking what a cool sound.

definitely one of my favorite hawkwind songs, and this live performance is the best version imho. The lineup here was truly at its best, Simon House's violin is stunning, beautiful....just amazes me.

Saw them in Cleveland just BEFORE, Edge of time was released . When the song ended it was totally quiet for a few seconds, everyone was totally blown away, then went into a loud cheer.

My good friend Martin “Beardy” Beard introduced me to Hawkwind at a young age, fortunately my father had taken me to see The Enid at the age of 12 so this was welcomed at the time 🙏🏻 Saw Hawkwind on this tour and they blew my mind 😂 that’s what they do 👊🏻

This gig was pretty much my doorway into hawkwind, I saw it on ch4's "cue the music" in the second half of the 80s. When I started listening to earlier material I realised that I recognised the sound from my childhood in the 70s. I must have been exposed to radio play back then. Anyway, I went on a very long hawkwind trek and they've been ingrained into my psyche ever since. Fly high.

@@markharwood7573 Oh, yeah. I'd never heard this before, and it absolutely ruins the first verse of "Golden Void." I mean, this is a nursery rhyme melody, FFS. Couldn't they have found someone able to handle it?

@@petercoonan1861 Space Ritual, I got it as a present from my girlfriend in 1973, she knew I already liked Hawkwind and I had recently seen them on the Space Ritual tour in 1972.

Bridget Wishart , made this line up very special . Great times :)

bridget (+ simon) should have done a couple more albums with hawkwind in the 90's.... bridget singing the right oldies (like reefer madness) she fitted in well....

This was their best line up without a doubt, the sound is so whole...

The Simon House era was their best,in my opinion. Studio and live. Adds so much to the music...Brilliant.

Looking forward to seeing them in Belfast Mandella hall next year 🙂

Loved watching this on a video, when I'd recorded it around 3am on a weekday when it was shown on ITV as part of a Bedrock series!!

Aka 'Assault and Battery (Part 1)' 'The Golden Void (Part 2)' as per the track list on "Warrior on the Edge of Time"

Listen to Simon House in High Tide on Sea Shanties and the album of the same name. Two AMAZING albums!!!!

Ali was Lemmy's prodigy.

I thought the live version from the 70s vinyl album was amazing. Time moves so quickly. The 80s were awesome for music, and this live version is incredible.

Assault and Battery/Golden Void not "Lives of great men/Void of golden light", from Warriors On The Edge Of Time inspired by the writings of Michael Moorcock, a sometime Hawkwind collaborater who lived in Ladbroke Grove, London. Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon, Warrior On The Edge Of Time etc.

I like it but it is a bit to fast, they need to slow it down a bit to get that real epic feeling.

She fairs not well dear Jagged. Would that she spend time with that fairest of blooms, the Iron Orchid, then maybe she could come to better terms with our lives here. But I feel she misses this "husband" of hers too much. I asked the Duke on his thoughts to this but as usual his reply was ambiguous as always. Am glad you have returned for many times I sought your council but could not find you!

Alex the source material for this is the Live Legends Video ... Dave Brock named it Lives of Great Men ... take it up with the man that claims the rights and payments. If you had ceased to earn royalties on an old song that you reworked, wouldn't you be tempted to rename it when releasing it again?
