Hawk at the Roxy - 1985 - No One to Love
Музыка
www.metalmethod.com - November 15, 1985 - a time when men with giant hair roamed the earth. Their addiction to hairspray is often sighted as the primary reason for the destruction of the earth's ozone layer.
Hawk was lead guitarist Doug Marks (Metal Method guitar instructor), bassist Lonnie Miller (King Kobra, Bullet Boys), Scott Travis on drums (Judas Priest, Fight, Racer X), and Charlie Morrill.
This performance is from Hawk's Roxy show in Hollywood, California. This combination of musicians never recorded an album. The Hawk album was released the following year and featured only Doug Marks from this lineup with vocalist David Fefolt (Masi), and drummer Matt Sorum.

Doug...in Chile ... everybody wants to see HAWK!!!
I dont really remember Hawk back in the day but I love everything I've found. I bet I've played this 50 times in the last couple of weeks.
Yes, I think about it but what I'm doing with the guitar lessons takes an incredible amount of time. I would love to do it again but it would be tough for me to give up my "day job" - Metal Method. When I put together Hawk in '85 I put my business on hold and invested $80,000 in the project. On this page is everything that I've got to show for it aside from experience and memories.

I came from the future... And if you join again with the guys and make recitals... You will recover more than the triple you put on the band. Try it Doug.

I took lessons from Doug back in Denver in 82'. He was the best teacher / mentor I've ever had. He is the major reason that I still play guitar some 30 years later. THANKS DOUG!

Love this! I have always respected Doug's entrepreneurial spirit. Very inspiring. I have know of Hawk since the days of the Hit Parader ads but this is my first time hearing. Love it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND HAWK FANS,, HEY DOUG LOVE YOU BRO,
I think every show at all times should be video archived for the future of mankind. All genres, all venues everywhere.. record it all
I don't recognize this screen name but I believe I know who you are. There were a couple of people that were relentless. I said that I would eventually do it and here it is. Before long I hope to have the entire concert up because there's been such a positive response. It's funny, I watch this video more than any other video that I've posted.
When rock Gods roamed the earth! Thanks for posting Doug and for the awesome performance.
Absolutely mind blowing performance! Every member on point. Doug, talk about being at the top your game man! That’s solo brought tears to my eyes…
I really enjoy your music, and I had fun learning your guitar lessons. Thank you very much.
The original Bulletboys vocalist was Marc Torien. I believe he still performs with the group from time to time. Charles has performed with the group in recent years. I talked with him this morning and told him I posted this. He'll probably have a response to this.

Thanks for posting this Doug I was 15 then and I had 3 or 4 of your lessons from back then on cassette. I have since passed them on to my son when he turned 13 or so (2005) It was harder for me find a cassette player then it was to find my old lessons!!
Ahhh the good old days. I really miss it. Had all the metal method lessons back then. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Doug - I bought my first guitar in 1985 but only recently purchased the Metal Method DVD's. Even though I am an advanced player now, I have really enjoyed watching the DVD lectures and seeing your approach to teaching guitar. Since 1985 I have collected an embarassingly large number of guitar instruction books, tapes, CD's and DVD's. I think your teaching approach is definitley one of the best. I only wish I had picked up the course when I first started playing!
OMG! Awesome find for me as I lost contact with Charles and David many many years ago. I'm their 2nd cousin Tim. Please, if you have more Hawk videos with Charles post them. I still love his voice after all these years.
WOW, I've been seeing dougs metal method advertised for last 20 years and finally got around to picking it up a couple years ago. This is my first time seeing hawk and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting into them sooner. Live and learn my friends
wow... can't wait to see it! Scott Travis is one hell of a drummer!!!
Doug .. I bought those tapes. Helped me play metal guitar! Nice job ! Man a long time ago
Amen! This is how REAL music is played. With raw power and emotion heart and soul. Something that is definately missing from todays bands. Nothing compares to the 80's. Nothing.
and he's still alone with no one to love. no one! how can you be so uncaring? did you hear me?! NO ONE!!.

Epic solo. Thanks for posting this gem.
The Bullet Boys. Their bass player, Lonnie gave me a gold album of that recording. So, to answer your question I just had to look to my right. The writing was on the wall so to speak.
Those were the days Thanks for sharing

Wow, I often wondered what the inspiration for the cover illustration on the original cassette was, since it was so obviously not Doug. This was great to watch.

I love this song! Everything is great, the guitar, vocals, bass, drums, it's EPIC! Bands need hair like that nowadays...
Sounds almost like a cross between Kiss Black Diamond and The Scorpions Still Loving You which is perfect.
2020 and still watching.
Loved the album, too bad there weren't more albums. Great sounding metal band.
Thanks, Kat...!
Damn, what a sick voice!!
Cool video....forgot all about them....Dont remember them releasing too many albums....
Are you still there. Im from malaysia, asia country. Love very much this metal band. In my country in 80s and 90s we was influenced by these all crazy metal band, hawk, tokyo blade, loudness
I've played the Roxy with my band a couple of times and it's sick to see what bands played there back in the day
I would have loved to see this show, but I didn't hit the Roxy for the first time until I was 18 (1989). Man I miss those days, the best genre of music ever!

Doug Marks I bet, I missed a lot of amazing bands. I used to go see a band called Zion Heights there around 1990. They were a local band from Thousand Oaks. They never made it but the house was still packed everytime they played.
HOW did this EVER END?? WHEN DID IT Become a CRIME to be BEAUTIFUL as long as YOU CAN SING LIKE THAT!! ;) OH, THANK YOU FOR THIS XOX

Awesome take back to the 80's! Some say hair bands were cheese but really was a great time.I learned the Metal Method when I was like 15 years old. Been playing for 24 years now and my metal band has cd's out with songs on the radio. Thanks to Hawk,Doug and Metal from the 80's to now.
Great band. The question is why were they not huge ? Pound for pound probably better than most bands of their time. The killer guitar and band with equal talent. Vocals are spot on, drums and bass awesome
@EvaSlash Thanks. It was heartfelt, that's for sure. It's kind of difficult describing my approach. I'll try. All of the solos started out as completely improvised. As time passed, some of the slow melodic parts were repeated. A lot of the fast stuff is just me "going for it" but even some of that stuff ended up having some structure. None of it was memorized in a note-for-note kind of way.
oh god what a voice! great song!
November 15, 1985. I went to work at a nearby supermarket, then to a football play-off game that day.
Ah ha! So THIS was Doug (Metal Method) Mark's band. I remember seeing the ads in magazines, and thought that dude has some serious hair! Of course, as I was balls-deep in Thrash metal & early death metal...well, I wasn't particularly open to that look and I'm sure it kept me from getting some very solid educational materials. Cheers Mark, you guys were very good; it's obvious to see you were much stronger musicians than many other guys in this scene. All the best-M
I think I was there that night. I just don’t remember! 😎
glad i found this video
Performance at Roxy- Noone to love Doug this song is absolutely fantastic. Your soloing is amazing and you look mighty young. I don't know if you still teach songs in length, but in my opinion this one is a must. The solo is so tasteful and soulful. I would love to learn to learn it would you consider Metal Method DVD on this song. I know you have done it before because I have your VHS classic songs on Dokken-Alone Again. This song is just as good. Thank you for your time.
Great song...sounds amazing. Crowd is bored because they saw great bands every day of the week at the time...spoiled brats.
