I’m proud to have Jerry Byrd as my grand-Kumu. My teachers teacher
This was great. I hope young people learn to play the steel guitar. The sound it makes is so relaxing, beautiful and tropical.

I'm 22 years old and I'm considering learning to play this amazing instrument. I hope it's not too late for me.
love this documentary i recently converted my first acoustic to a lap steel in C6 tuning to help me learn the use of tone bar and my slant skill to give me better understanding as learning tool alongside with a pedal steel guitar i inherited from my grandfather after his passing

Lucky we have several different kinds of Hawaiian music today 2022. Now like the Steel guitar, falsetto, slack key, Jawaiian, hiphop, rap, old style, contemporary, classic, chant, kahiko, olapa, folk and all the basic styles throughout Polynesia. A new genre is entering the field it is called "IWI" music.

When I hear this I get homesick......
Take the time to watch and listen to this.
As a non-musician, I've reinvented the lap steel tuning to be simpler and easier to play. Read from bottom to top, the first column is the number of half note intervals. Bb. .017 3 G. .024 -8 Eb. .017 3 C. .017 4 Ab. .020 3 F. .021 4 Db. .030w 3 Bb. .034w -8 Gb. .021 3 Eb. .024 With this setup, I can emulate just about anything I'd want to. As far as Im concerned, the simpler sounds are best anyway. On my 25" scale length, these string guages yeild the fullest possible sound.
Wow. I cant believe this is available and free
Jerry Bird 💥😮😳👍❤️ the famous // i look for if they talk about...Sol Hoopi.....very good document vidéo ❤️👍
Interesting! Old steel is nice. Basically all steel is same--you get sound you want.
I play Mohan veena, which is essentially derived from a Hawaiian steel guitar introduced to India by Tau Moe in the 1940s. We play raga music on it and Bollywood and other light music. I also lived in Hawaii and so it's beautiful to see the history of this Hawaiian instrument. Does anyone know where I can find sheet music or tutorials for these Hawaiian songs? Mahalo ❤️🙏
Ah-Weh!!! The nostalgia is sooooh thick!!! Just a matter of time, till someone figures out an algorithm to do this on a keyboard.
Waaaaaaw great
