We are staying just 5 minutes away on the other side and was wondering if it's possible to take our son back for a break then return later to see the lava flow. If we return after 7 and the park is closed, can we still drive in or the gates will be closed to vehicles? Thanks so much.

There is a $55 one year pass, your average local likely won't want to pay that much. I suspect the park gets lots of people tuning around at the gate..
