Great vid, the green flash is known as hard to spot let alone film. If you watch it in slow mo you can see it starts green then goes violet/blue.

Well done amazing to have filmed it. My partner and I witnessed this happen and we just look at each other wondering if what we saw really happened .

I had to watch several times to catch whats being called a "green flash" in this vid! I've seen the real one once in my life near Tillamook on the Oregon coast. However what I experianced was a bit different than this one... You would've missed it if you blinked but the whole atmosphere around flashed green. I had a similar experiance in arizona right before a storm. The atmosphere actually turned a pinkish hue.

I saw that phenomenon numerous times when I lived in Hawaii.

I have seen it 1x in my lifetime. When I tell people about it, they look at me like I have 3 heads 😂😂...I'm glad someone have it on video. It's not seen all the time. 😊

Sometimes there is an actual flash of green light. I'm not sure the camera here was doing it justice.

I expected it would be larger. I read it could actually separate from the sun disk.

The sun seems to hover due to mirage at times and even show double.

It's the sunlight refracting through the atmosphere and only the green light reaches the observer

Reported by sailors for centuries but this is the first time filmed, I think. Depends on calm winds, proper, clear-air humidity and watching at the right time. It's very rare.

Thanks. Looks a bit bluish on my phone. Reckon it is possibly an interference pattern where the light is refracted as you get with a slit.

If it is on film it is probably an artifact of the camera sensor having its white balance thrown off in low light.

OR it's an extremely well documented phenomenon that people, photographed and filmed for years. If it was a white balance issue the whole image would color shift

@@ctsean No, just the bright part would color shift since it is undergoing a rapid intensity change. Colors recorded by cameras right at and just after sunset are never accurate as a result.

@ctsean Yes, it will be in one tiny spot, because the white balance in that spot was never accurate to begin with. Once the intensity drops, the false color becomes apparent due to the different responsiveness of the three pixel filter colors. In a camera you will see all sorts of weird local colors when there is a large change in brightness because of this. An image is recorded on a mosiac of one red, one blue and two green pixels, which are combined in camera to produce a false color that forms the image we see. That combining of information from camera pixels to generate the final image is what produces these sorts of local color shifts.

Um ...Hello!!!!!...it can be seen with the naked eye, so it has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything photographically related! Yes, optics and light related, but certainly not a camera's white balance getting f***** with. I live on Hawaii island and have seen the green flash with my own 2 eyes in real time, as it happened. So there you have it, debate resolved.
