    Life is short. Or it's long if you have fun on the journey. This is the perfect video of showing how to just simply have lots of endless joy, exploring the capabilities of Genos and your particular musical interests. Videos like this and the Genos Club videos are a rare treat. They are like sitting beside a master of the instrument, watching him play, and getting educated, entertained, and enlightened in the process. We are all VERY fortunate to have this opportunity. Thanks so much Leigh, for creating the club and carrying it along in your delightful personal witty style.

    Great video as always Leigh. I may not always comment, but I do view. Interestingly, having listened to a number of reviews by other accomplished players, to try and get the best overview of G2, rather than only one person's view, others think the sliders are great. This shows me that manufacturers won't please everyone. Having started with a PSR S970 in 2016, I can see myself upgrading to G2 even in the knowledge that a G3 will follow in years to come. I'm def hooked on Yamaha. Very best wishes :)

    Great intro tip! I always found that I made a great find when I find an intro and style that works for a particular song in my repertoire. Then you hear everyone else using it, it really kills your mood. So being able to create your own unique intro on the fly is genius. Don't know if I can do it half as good as you but I'm gonna try it. Thank you!

Both these points will be hard for me. Still in process of fund management and wonder… should I wait for the Genos 3?

    Hi Leigh ...nice job with the rock ballad style. Did you compose that yourself. It is very good. Beautiful chord work. It was like listening to Jay Bekenstein in Spyro Gyra. Regarding your pet hate sliders, with respect, they have to be like that if you want the visual feedback of the LED lights. Each style loads with different settings and the lights indicate the level settings. The sliders are not automated with motors so they do not move when you load a new style. Motorised faders like those on a professional automated mixing desk would be very expensive, so Yamaha opted for the LED display which does move to the correct setting and if you want to edit it, you have to synchronise the fader with the actual setting before you can make a change. The faders did not match the loaded style even on Genos 1 and had to be synchronised in order to edit. Genos 2 simply reveals the issue to people who could not work it out for themselves. Yamaha could do away with the sliders and just use a rotary knob that revolves continually. That way it does not have to be synchronised to the LED's, it just adds or subtracts depending on which direction you turn it.

    Nothing to do with the faders - the “catch” feature on the sliders is what is annoying the hell out of me.

  • @OriginalNightStalker

    @OriginalNightStalker

    Ай бұрын

    @@LeighWilbraham There are several audio devices on the market that do similar things. The problem is, as @itsjusterthought7941 said, the syncing of the fader position with the actual fader level. Say, for example, the physical fader is at level 90 from a piece you've just played and adjusted. You then load in a new style, and the parameter of that setting is set to 40. Now if you touch and start to move the physical fader, if you didn't have the "catch" system there, the level of that parameter would instantly jump to 90 or thereabouts. Embarrassing in a live performance or recording. You just move the fader to match, or "catch" the current preset level, and THEN move it, and the level moves smoothly from where it was at. It's a pretty standard thing on many synths, for example. An infinite rotary control may do better, but doesn't give the same feedback of where your current level is. Motorized faders that move to the level that is set in the style would be another "fix". But the "catch" system is the best way to get smooth level changes currently. Just a pity that you've convinced yourself that it's a pain, so now every time you have to "catch" a level, you're just reinforcing your sentiment.... ;)

    I think that sliders works really good. Maybe for those who liked the old style there should be an option to set it differently, but the default, new way of sliders working is in my opinion great. I know that we must slide it little more, but the idea was not to make unintentional and with a big difference changes in settings while operating sliders. I can't even imagine when I woudn't have such a option, while on one page I have ie. volume from my USB or Bluetooth device (average on 30-50), and on the other side on this same slider Keyboard Volume set on 127! It is easy to see that this would be a disaster and a nightmare if it was not implemented such a solution like we have now in Genos 2.

    @@LeighWilbraham Think this is just something that people either like or don't like, I don't have a problem with it, but lets hope next Genos model they'd give us 9 motor faders instead so when ever you change the fader scene mode or press a registration you always have the correct position. IMO the price on these instruments should be able to fit those into the design.

    If you by "live" means audio styles, you cannot make your own, or edit an audio style, and it can't be combined with midi styles. You can only load those few exp packs or audio styles Yamaha made for the T5. Afaik they havn't worked on this since the T5. I do agree that they can sound more real, but imo since most if not all official Yamaha Styles is made with the use of Mega Voices which have loads od different articulations so you can fine edit it in a DAW to sound nearly as good as Audio loops of real musicians. I think it is more needed that Yamaha drops some of the backwards compatibility and starts to make it possible to have different arrangements dependent on the chord you use so the different instruments can play a completely different pattern wether you take a major, Minor, suspended etc. chord. This is already being done by eg. Korg

  • @mrdali67
    @mrdali67Ай бұрын

    I caught you on the vocal sounds. I know its some of the hardest to get to sound natural, but unless you look at software libraries for composers, this havn't really changed much in the last3 decades, no matter if its Synths, Workstations or Arrangers. sure they do become slightly better but they still sound just as cheasy as back in the 90's when Roland made the first Dooo and Bahhh sounds in their instruments. And it do get old very fast. Would be nice to see some updates in this department. I know there is some amazing libraries for computer us, so why not try to make some S.art sounds that actually sounds like like a real couple of female or male voices instead of a one shot sample of some mega choir sound like those that came out in different 90's romplers.
